Great unclaimed absents in this thread so far: Nana Mouskouri, The Partridge Family, and Melanie.

OK, Melanie's different. Still very much an icon of the times... and that voice is unique, admit it. Had never seen any footage of her playing, BTW:

DragonForce. Saw them live at Ozfest a few years ago (I had free tickets, not my usual fare). Picture a Euro Metal band with Steve Perry on vocals and a keytar player. The guilty pleasure comes in for the dual guitar solos.

Huey Lewis. Not that I'd expect anyone here to frown upon me for that, but when one of my friends climbs in to my car and I'm blasting "It's Hip To Be Square" at 11, I get some cool points taken away.

My girlfriend listens to a lot of "girlie" bands that I have absorbed through osmosis over the years. Currently when I'm asked to pick songs to listen to in the car off her ipod, I'll head for such classics as Kerli, KT Tunstall (not bad at all... just not terribly manly), and Flyleaf. Help me!

Oh they're good... I just can't get past the singer and the keytar player enough to really take them seriously.

No shame there bro - two great albums without a shadow of a doubt.

The only pity is that Christine McVie didn't sing on all their songs

Corrected that for you.

Speaking of Fleetwood Mac, I've always liked Christine McVie better than Stevie Nicks.
Look how Nicks is causing hemorrhaging in this TV:

Hi,

NONE!

Music is not about "embarassing" to me ... it's about something that moves you or I .... and some is considered this or that and some not ... heck, some people got turned on hearing Jane and Serge way back when ... what is there to be ashamed of? It was the age of the multi-media and show off ... and of course the best one yet ... advertising!

PS. I always thought Christine McVie was much more interesting as a person than the vain ... what was her name again? Personally I don't blame Christine not coming back ... who needs the money, unless you're trying to support some coke habit ... still!

Despite what I said earlier, there is one cd I'm flat out ashamed to own. I swear it was a gag gift, but
I sorta did listen to it a fair number of times

Fat chance. I saw that video once, back then. Took me a while to recall the name of the track, that had stuck, somehow. Rrrrrrrico Suave. Mwuha. OMG.

I had blocked that video out of my mind for 15 years.
Now I have no choice but to pull down the shades, tie on a bandana & try all the old moves.
Curse you.

ORIGINAL: jamesg1213 Well everyone I know falls about laughing when they hear this guy sing, but I just love it. Got all their albums on CD now, & they get a sneaky play now and again, usually in the van when I'm driving alone!
Streetwalkers - Mama Was Mad

BS ... Total BS ...

You gotta get the Family albums and then Red Card and all the Streetwaters albums ... they are excellent ... superb.

And if you do not have the fill of Roger Chapman singing, try "Hyenas only laugh for fun" ... I happen to think that it is an excellent album.

Sadly ... everyone compares him ... and while the veritable Joe Cocker comparison is always there, in the end, these are two vastly different people and musicians ... and in many ways I find Roger to be much more true to his nature and source than Joe ... and the music behind him is always better ... the band members for Family and Streetwalkers are unbelievably good ... and I even dare say way too progressive and intelligent for mere pop music ... Joe Cocker in a way never left that scene!
