Bangla Desh (Off-Topic)

Yeah, I know this is waaaaay off-topic, but I watched (for the first time) the Concert For Bangla Desh on DVD. It pretty much blew me away. I actually had the opportunity to see that show when I was a kid. However the ticket price was beyond my budget at the time.

If you haven't seen it, you should check it out. Although it took place at Madison Square Garden, the DVD has a very "up-close and personal" feel about it. Plus, it's interesting to see the technology in use back then. The acoustic guitars were all mic'd. Those were the days before under-saddle pickups, etc.

The line-up included George Harrison, Eric Clapton and Bob Dylan (to name a few).

Very cool. I'm gonna go watch it again...

    Dave:
AFAIK the original film was in 16mm and it took almost two years to digitize it frame by frame - I believe I read that somewhere - not a bad DVD transfer given the original material.

Thanks for the recommendation. I'll check it out; it sounds like a good watch. I haven't seen any kind of concert video since Spinal Tap! :-)

(If it ain't broke, fix it.)

As I recall, the backing band included Pete Ham and Joey Molland of Badfinger, and my favorite under-rated guitarist from back in the day, Jesse Ed Davis. Good stuff, that.

I think Don Preston (guitar player for Leon Russell) is totally awesome in his two solos - he is standing right night to Harrison, Clapton and Jesse Ed Davis - and he totally plays cool calm and with tons of soul.
