A Cautionary Tale of Country Life to Cheer Up Craig.

Earlier today - I took the back road from my job Kirkcowan to the next one in Sorbie after lunch (we're talking back of beyond, totally rural)..got about halfway qalong the 10 mile journey and came to a halt 'cos there were about 2 dozen cows and calves milling about in the road. Some idiot left a gate open I suppose.

Saw an open gate ahead on the right, thought I could maybe drive slowly and nudge 'em in that direction..well, half of the silly bastids went through it, the other half ran off down the road. Then the ones that went in the field came back out, chasing their pals..so, I now have half of 'em in front of the van, half behind.

Brilliant.

Pootled along for a bit, then saw a right hand turn with sign to a farm, so figured I'd go and tell the farmer, bound to be his cows.

About a mile or so uphill, single track road, eventually came to the farmyard and told (I assume) the farmer's wife who got on the phone to someone immediately.

Feeling like I'd done a good deed, I headed back down the farm track.

Got almost to the end and was confronted with the bloody cows again, running like ****, straight at me, with farmer on an ATV chasing 'em.

Oh bugger.

No way to turn round in the narrow lane, so slammed the old Fiat van into reverse and hurtled backwards up the track, cows easily keeping pace...they can't half run, them thick sods.

On and on, backwards uphill, van started overheating..whacked the fan heater on full blast to try and cool it, opened the window..sweating like a sweaty thing now..

Eventually came to stop almost back at the farmyard, and the farmer on ATV careers by and yells through the window ''that's them back in, cheers mate''

Yeah mate...no worries.

Do you prefer Fish or Hogarth? I'm happy with either.

I prefer Fish (which is a lot nicer to say than preferring Dick - lol) to Hogarth, but I like both.  I also have a bunch of Fish albums.

I don't have anything from Jellyfish (any of the artists that I found with that name).  What albums do you have?  Are they any good?

I have Bellybutton and Spilt Milk.  I think they're the only releases.  They're a good pop band that are kind of like Marshal Crenshaw, Gin Blossoms, and some Beatles in style.  If you like that sort of thing.

Yep.  Just figured that out and listened to a song or two.  Not bad and those two albums are their only two full studio albums...

I've got everything (that I know of) from both the Gin Blossoms and the Beatles, but not a single album from Marshall Crenshaw though the name is familiar.  Oh well!

Marshall co-wrote "Til I Hear It From You" with the Gin Blossoms.  His first single was a cover of the Robert Gordon tune "Someday Someway":

There's not a bad song on that first eponymous release and the second one "Field Day" is almost as good.
