hmm... that's a very broad question the answer of which would depend on my mood and how ranchy I want things. How about some vintage Iommi... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yZA4TC_pt4 (I really want to buy the official release of this concert).

If you want something more modern though I freaking love these guys... Necrophagist (Probably Not Safe For Work or small children): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TeYStyDDGEM Edit/Warning!: The original link I had posted seemed to have weird limiting problem where the limiter would release (with a sloooow attack) thus allow a massive blast of LOUD until the limiter kicked back in. This new link seems better. Sorry if I blasted anyone out. I thought it was just my shizzy, dying cans crapping out on me... but nope, twas some derpwad who didn't bother checking his upload.

I'd post more but I'm currently groovin' on this Necrophagist. I really do wish they hadn't gone for the full on "Cookie Monster" vocals. Yanno... not eliminate them but get some actual singing in there too.

Also I gotta say... as great as the guits are they are kind of just one part of the puzzle of awesomeness (the others being the insane drums and bass). Unfortunately the bass is buried as it oft is in productions like these. Also I have no idea what the heck the growler dood is saying. Based on some of the words I've been able to pick out it seems standard fare death/extreme metal silliness... which is, er silly and extreme so maybe that should have a NSFW tag.

Here's a playlist of SRV live at the "El Mo" (a stage I stomped MANY times*)... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6G53BMgugo&list=PLVRhKORILej9F8rNUg3qmwkEEHBFL6rhC It's annoying because the whole CityTV special was hosted at one point in one vid but I think they mixed/remastered an official release of the show... which is another live performance I would love to/intend to own at some point. It's not just 'cuz it's in my "home" city or nuthin'. The performances are freaking wonderful. Stevie in his prime. Wish I had been there but I was still a little squeeble beeple at the time. *a new owner took over the bar/building I guess about a decade or so ago and ripped that historic stage out and totally mangled that classic live venue. They kept it a live venue but completely destroyed the sound and the feel of the place. Quite sad.

HOT DAMN! I forgot how good that performance of Texas Flood was. I will take any and all flak for lurvin' me some SRV (and have from some of my stauncher "punk" freinds). The man was a freaking guitar god. And yes... I've always preferred the "trio/triumvirate" band model when it is musically possible.

I could guit nerd out about how AK is obviously the prime influnce for a lot of the SRV licks and how AK's style of completely freaking manhandling his upsidoozy V managed to be duplicated by a teeny tiny little white boy (using ridiculously thick strings) and how FREAKING BLOODY INTERSTING IT IS!!!! But instead I'll just say... Mr. King is/was the "Protopunk" king of the blues.

@billywhomwhatlurksinthinebayous Oh dood... now I'M jelli! Someday I'll get a lefty guit and flop it to an upside down righty just so I can explore what guys like him had access to as far as licks and whatnot. Also... this live vid is occasionally annoying me when Albert lets the moustachioed guit player take the lead. Dood... just... no.

Correction: AK was the "Protopunk" of MODERN blues. The protopunk of blues as a whole obviously existed far before anyone could (and/or cared to) record it.

I also saw AK live, circa 1979, London town. Support act was ex-Thin Lizzy guitarist Eric Bell, and he was darn good too.

Yes sir!! SRV's been a huge influence on me after Texas Flood came out, and since then I ended up getting all his studio albums. Here's another great blues player....
