ARRRRRRRRRGGGGHHH!!!!!
My car is dead again... Transmission this time.
Sorry, Craig. Good luck getting it repaired.
Unfortunately, taking your last sentence in a sarcastic voice instead of hopeful is more correct. A friend took me over to where I had to leave the car yesterday and, after wasting about 90 minutes trying to get the hood open (the cable to unlock the hood broke last week), we towed the car behind my friend's truck (including going onto two freeways - a bit of a white knuckle ride!). We got it to my driveway and, while trying to tow it up the driveway, the tow-strap broke. So, we tied it off onto the tow hitch and got it up to the flat part of the driveway where we were able to get the beast into the garage. Another 90 minutes(!) later, we finally got the hood open - albeit terminally damaging the hood, grill, latching mechanism and grill in the process. We checked the transmission fluid level and... it was empty. So we put a quart of new transmission fluid in along with some stupidly expensive transmission fix liquid but, while we were idling the car, it started to overheat and pumped coolant (
NEW coolant from last week's radiator flush) all over the floor. Turns out the coolant overflow cap hadn't been put on correctly (and the radiator fans are obviously not working either). So, we back up the car to clean up the coolant leak only to find all the new transmission fluid was all over the garage floor in a puddle along with some new oil leak drops. It's now 1:20am and I'm just getting inside... *Sigh*
Looks like we're ready to call a priest in for last rites. I only bought the thing two months ago and it's been pretty much undrivable for over half of that time! What really sucks is that I had to give my custom guitar back to my luthier to get enough money to buy the car...
So the next step is even more drastic. I've pretty much resigned myself to having to sell all of my guitar gear (since I don't have any guitars left) and probably most of my recording gear as well. Then get a decent car and a real job. After that I'll probably begin buying everything back! (Note that my computer and main keyboard are currently not slated to be sold, but I have a hunch I'm going to have to let a LOT of what's left go.)
THAT'S LIFE, EH?
