When I'm not feeling well, I'd rather be at work. I get to share the misery and make it look like I'm a team player willing to go that extra mile. Of course, I'm hoping they force me to go home where you KNOW I'm going to take that extra day off after I feel well so I can enjoy it. This used to be called "Craig's Rule of Two" by my work friends and it goes like this: If you only take one day off, management thinks you probably weren't all that sick and were probably faking it but, if you take two, then they usually say it's a good thing you took an extra day because you look much better when you return. Win-win in my book.

Good RUle of Two........unless, you don't have enought sick days left.
Well, back when I actually was working for a place that had sick leave, they always made sure I was so busy that I couldn't use my vacation time. Therefore, if I was even able to use up all of my sick days (I never did), then I wouldn't have a problem using a vacation day. I usually had to turn vacation days in for money at the end of most years... I went a full ten years averaging 56.3 hours per week for the entire time and not once had a full week off for vacation! I guess that's another reason for extending the time off when sick.

It's a personal day. Not sick. Not anything else, for that matter. Don't have to explain anything to anyone. I get a load of hours I can take off at my discretion for any reason. If I take a couple of weeks to sit at home, sleep 18 hours a day, watch stupid shows on TV, and blow bubbles in the Cheez Whiz, that's my business. If I want to use my time varnishing live screech owls while white water elk shaving, there's nothing for the boss to see. As it happens, I'm working today and somewhere near a distant river, the elk sigh in relief.

Ya! (Not sure if blowing bubbles in the Cheez Whiz is covered though...) But, as Dilbert says, having too much free time can be bad and you start wanting to shave your entire body and sit in a tub of mayo... (Personally, I prefer butterscotch pudding, but YMMV.)
