Bapu's final song for 2012

Ring Of Fire

Updated in  Stereo for my friend Shad

For those that don't "get it", I was not trying to sing the original verse melody. I decided to create my "take" on it.

Also, I only had a four hour window to create the whole song in and I (at least) accomplished that.

Piano, guitar & lap steel were generated by RealTracks from BIAB. The bass, drums and vocals were done by me.

Ed, they have this new invention that has taken music to a whole new level. Its called Stereo. Basically, instead of the single mono track we all know and love, it has two tracks with different parts in each that actually make is seem like the instruments can be pinpointed within the room. It is really cool. You will be blown away. I was. I have been thinking my next song should be in stereo too.

    Oh snap... Shad.

I had previously exported a mono track for some external processing and forgot to reset the export parms before doing the full song.

    Uploading Now!!! In Stereo!!!

Now the vocals suck in stereo! Yeah!

It would probably be much better with just an acoustic guitar? Or perhaps someone beating on a box?

I'm sorry for that right there BAPU :-(

I meant it with love?  Or at least, without too much non-love?

Or maybe I'm wrong? In some alternate universe? It could happen? This rscaine pinhead could have a good point?

Or we could agree that Ed has talents? That don't necessarily include singing? Well, the sane among us may agree with that point of view :-) Not the recaine among us? Ed? You may have a customer for your vocal styleingings? LOL!

It is a nice laid back version Ed. Maybe raising the key a bit would have helped, you're reaching into your boots there...but y'know, I have to give you kudos for even putting your voice up for comment, I don't have the nuts to try.

pedal steel sounds great!  (BIAB?)  mix is good, no major crits on this one.  drums are nice, well placed, good snap and thump for the song.  bass sounds good and also well placed.

you've got just a little "noise" on something (it's obvious at the very beginning).

    nice tribute!

Hey! Look at that! Stereo! . I think this is a deceivingly difficult song to sing (as are a lot of Cash's songs - they seem simple till you try to sing them yourself). Kudos for the attempt. I might cut a bit of the low end from the vox, ED. Otherwise mix is not too bad at all.

As stated in response to Beagle, it is BIAB for the pedal steel. BIAB has come a long way with the addition of RealTracks, which is actual players but "assembled" based on the tempo and chord changes. BIAB does not always get it right but when it does it can be  time saver. In this particular case it was a time saver as yesterday was last time I had before the new year to complete a song.

Thanks to all who listened and commented thus far.

For those that don't "get it", I was purposely *not* trying to sing the original verse melody. I decided to create my "take" on it. Could the chorus be better? Ya, I suppose so... however.... I only had a four hour window to create/record/mix and upload the whole song in and I (at least) accomplished that (albeit in mono the first time ).
