@ Starise - I actually went with the Korean verison. It was told to me the American is more road sturdy, and yes I can change tuners and even neck down the road.
@ Mesh - Sorry, the deal I got is not "public". I'm not at liberty to say.

I bought a roland GR 900 or whatever it is called and was very disappointed originally in the tones it produced, until I took it out of my jam room and into my studio.  Now I love it.

Great sitar-ish sound

It actually looks vile TBH.  The headstock, logo, pickguard and colour all conspiring to make it look like some taiwanese non-brand sub $200 clunker.

But I'm sure it's looks belie it's capabilities.

And besides I've got so used to seeing Michael's master works by now I'm sure I've become very spoiled when it comes to aesthetics.

LOL ..thanks Jon...I've been trying to come up with something nice to say .lol...without sounding like a liar!

I HATE LINE 6!!  They made me so mad they'll never do anything I like....Glad it's not mine Bapu and I'd say
congrats but......I just can't...I wish you well though. ( cause you must be a sick puppy to buy that crap LOL)
geeze I wish I hadn't said that. Peace my brother.

Sadly I think I had my opinion filter amputated long ago.

I do miss the ability to be able to keep my mouth shut on occassion...

I'm sure there are plenty that would gladly donate toward having a replacement fitted too.

I found that turning my feet so they are vertical when placed in my mouth presents such a stunning visual image, that no one really listens to the words falling out of my mouth.

HTH.

Variaxes are fun - but only if you have the guts (what you really pay for) transplanted into a nice custom guitar!

(Having done some beta-testing for Line 6 I can tell you that, to make certain pricepoints, the electronics are great, but the guitar - not so much.)

In a recent study, as many as 4 out of 5 bass players can be fooled into buying a Variax just by the color of the guitar alone...

Time for all of you to head over to Beyond My DAW!

Hi, Ed,

Congrats, brother, from my personal experience with my Variax that I bought in 2005, I'd say you're going to love it.

Good video, I much preferred the real Les Paul and Tele's tones in that comparison, but even I can see this would be a great tool for the studio.

So how does it affect the feel of what you are playing with the string tensions of a standard tuning using some of those alternate tunings, does that not feel a bit weird?

JB,

I will report back on the feel once mine arrives, but TBH unless it's a 2x4 wall stud (like a real Les Paul* ) I don't usually notice how a guitar "feels". Coming from a poor upbringing I guess I just got used to the cheap guitar feel (and apprently the looks too).

*Serioulsy, I abhor the feel of a Les Paul, but do love the sound so I think this is the guitar for me.

Nah, it's just the old music store owner in me.  I'd have had the black one in stock for demo purposes and taken orders on the rest...

If I ever ended up with guitars I couldn't shift I used to raffle them.  I got rid of a particularly nasty looking canary yellow SG that way for four times the price it was on the peg for.

I also had a really good guy that did a fantastic job with all the set-ups on new stock so even the cheapest of the oriental delights played as well as they were ever going to which was also another good sales policy.

That was back in the late 80's when pointy headstocks had just become the thing and man there were some ugly axes around then...

I agree Jonbouy about the sound of the models against the real thing. I picked up on sharper detail with the real versions. The very nice thing though here is that the software that comes with the guitar allows you to change those models or make up new ones so the possibilities are many. So I could add more bite to my Les Paul model if I thought it needed it.

The American JTV 69 .vs the Korean JTV 69 is , I'm sure, a pretty big one.But I didn't have $3500.00 laying around either,at least not alotted for that lol. Your getting basically the type of guitar you would get with a less expensive PRS. I follow the line 6 threads in regards to these guitars and most people are happy with the Korean JTV69, but not as much so with the JTV 59 due to some problems with switches. I can change things like tuners and such if need be and even have it pleked but I might not need to.

You are not the first person not to like the look of the guitar as I have heard other comments like the ones you made. It was designed by James Tyler who is a world class luthier, so it surprises me when people dislike the look. I like the guitar but then maybe I don't have much real taste in guitars lol.

I'm not sure about the feel of the strings using alternate tunings. I have heard comments that you don't want to hear the strings while playing a different tuning because it can throw you off . On the tunings that merely act as an electronic capo it should make things easier.
