Bargain Becan

I got lucky tonight, Becan is expensive in Dubai, but my local conveniance store had 12 oz packs of Oscar Mayer centre cut smoked becan for less than $2.  (about a fith of the regular price.  I grabbed one ,the best before date is tommorrow but as its already been eaten thats no longer a problem.

I'm with Bub on that one.... pork products in the middle east?

Here in Minnesota there are Target employees that refused to work the checkout register because they might have to handle bacon (in a sealed package) ...... huhhhh? instead of firing them and hiring someone who would do the job they were paid to do, they were transferred to a different job in the store......

When I was overseas, we used to be able to buy bacon in a can.  From Denmark, I think it was.  I thought that was weird, but it fried up quite well.  And it beat the local excuse for bacon.

Now I REALLY know what this Becan stuff is... ...something I can't have....

I'm pretty certain the selling of porky meat such as becan is permitted in Dubai, but obviously not to Muslims.

I'm reliably informed than Seventh Day Adventists aren't allowed becan either

That's correct. Dubai is pretty cosmopolatan and a number of supermarket chains have "Pork Shop" in a room off the main hall with a warning sign saying "for non-muslims only" These contain pork products, obviously, but also all sorts or other non halal goodies.

A lot of 5 star hotels have pork options on the menu.

In the "Magic Kingdom" (AKA Saudi Arabia) things are a lot different
