Basic Midi Question

Hi everyone,
Using Sonor 7. Kurzweil PC88 controller and Roland XV-3080 sound module. I only have a M-Audio 1x1 Midi interface.

Here is my question, is there a way I can use my existing interface to trigger both the Kurzweil and Roland sounds? I know I need midi out from the Kurz into the interface/controller. Is there a way I can chain things together to make this work? Do I need to use the Midi echo feature in Sonar? I'm having a a bit of trouble wrapping my head around all of this, so the more details the better.

Thanks in advance! I will be upgrading to a different midi interface, but I want to use what I have right now while I am demoing Sonar.

I think it can work like this....
If the PC88 has both a midi out and a midi thru, then connect the midi thru to the midi in of the 3080. And connect the midi in and out of the PC88 to the midi interface. The midi thru connection essentially duplicates and sends out whatever comes in on the midi in.
But then you need to use the menus of the PC88 and 3080 to make them respond to certain midi channels. You can set up the PC88 to respond to midi channels 1 to N and the 3080 to respond to midi channels N+1 to 16.
Of course you have to get the audio outs of both the PC88 and 3080 routed to a mixer or something similar so that you can hear them both.

I don't think the midi echo feature plays a role in what you want to do here. That just causes Sonar to echo the input it sees from the midi interface to the output side of the midi interface. If your midi synths (PC88 or 3080) have Local Control ON then each sound will be initiated twice, generally not what you want. So you typically have midi echo OFF unless the midi synths have local control OFF.
