Bass guitar question

Hey, bapu - and all you other bass thumpers - can you tell me why a Roger Waters signature Precision costs half as much as the same instrument without his name on it?

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Maybe the process of erasing the name from the headstock is very expensive?

Because it lets you play as good as he could. (sic)

It's Mexican made.

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

It's weird, you might have thought he'd only lend his name to a USA version.

Mind you, isn't the Fender Geddy Lee signature Jazz bass in the same price region.

Geddy's is Mexican too.  that must be it.
Or "the waters model" is not a useful instrument to play anything post-1980...

It's rumored that RW is tone deaf (have you heard him sing?). Maybe his signature bass can never be tuned properly.

That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

I been hanging round here so long I was beginning to believe all bass guitars were naturally inclined to default to Am tuning....
