You can also get some very convincing bass sounds from Kontakt and the Scarbee bass samples.....

Steinberg had the "virtual bass player" which now is legacy.

I remembered it to be quite cool, though this was with Sonar 2.2 :)

SampleTank
has some great bass sounds in it if you want to try midi programming. Or if you have a midi keyboard its a lot easier.

Your best bet is a midi keyboard and some good samples.Sampletank Free has some nice basses and the free Kontakt Player has a decent bass.The Scarbbe Basses from N.I. are awsome and I.K.'s Expansion Tank 2 has a nice bass collection.
