Batch adjust the volume of wav files by folder...?

Hi all,

I'm looking for a tool that will let me specify a folder and a db level to reduce the volume of all WAV files by in that folder.

Seems simple, but I haven't found exactly what I need yet...

You could do it with SONAR:

    - Import all tracks to a project in SONAR.
    - Select All, and Ctrl-change the output level to get the desired cut, or Process > Apply Effect > Gain.
    - Export all with Source = Tracks.

File naming might be an issue, though. I'd have to play around and see if it's possible to preserve some semblance of the original names.

This is an intriguing approach! :)

I would definitely need all file names preserved, and we're talking hundreds of files...

Sound Forge has a batch processing option that might work.

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

That sounds cool, but definitely not "free". :)

Yeah. I think naming is going to be a problem. Better to find a 3rd-party app that can do it.

I'm kind of curious... what need are you trying to address?

LOL - a little different project, this one.

I play a lot of Left 4 Dead 2. To be competitive, some plays reduce the volume of all unecessary sounds so that they are only hearing what they need to hear to play. It creates a much greater sense of spatial awareness and allows you to react more quickly to changes in the environment, such as enemy spawns. There are hundreds of files though...

    Checkout Wavosaur:

    http://www.wavosaur.com/

It free and has batch processing. You can even create a plugin channel and process files through it. It probably one of the best free audio editors available.
