Be careful deleting old versions of Sonar!

A word to the wise:
Recently I had some troubles with my PC (it appears the overclocking of my Sabertooth motherboard went a bit south!) and in the following days I worked at getting it running ok. I noticed that my SSD C drive was getting a little crowded so I thought some pruning may help.
If you want V Vocal to work DO NOT delete old Sonar stuff that you think is redundant!

It wouldn't be bad if the V Vocal region effect is greyed out in Platinum but it's not and clicking on it leads to an immediate shut down of Sonar (and an automatic report sent to Microsoft so that they can look into why Sonar crashed!!).
My product page, and I suppose everyone elses, only shows X3 and above so I was lucky I had the X2 install files on my big drive.
Fortunately Platinum will see V-Vocal when installed without having to guide it to a specific location and it's all working again.

Don't do this to yourself - leave well alone!

Grum.

    Yes, be aware of this...

V-Vocal is basically a plugin and was removed in X3 (and replaced as the Sonar included pitch correction tool by Melodyne). Normally (I believe but am not sure because I've never removed anything) if you had missing plugs in the FX Bin/Rack you'd get a "Missing Plugin" dialog. Likely the fact it's a "Region FX" is what's causing the issue (the clip is seeking out V-Vocal and can't find it thus bad things happen). I'd expect similar issues with open Melodyne, V-Vocal, Audiosnap, etc tools.

    1) Best to bounce Region FX anyway (like do your work and bounce the bugger... you can always reopen and edit the "Region" afterward or, if you made sure to keep a copy of the original clip, start from scratch... I always make copies and edit the copy instead of the original).

    2) I'd have to check my account but if you bought your upgrade to X2 in the Cake store the whole package should still be available. It might be separated from the main CCC store stuff though. My pre X3 downloads appear like they used to (IIRC) and then the new store stuff is all displayed/accessed in the new format. I am an "offline" installer though so I can't speak to what appears in that installer app as far as old downloads.

If you paid for the version and have all the s/n's and reg codes but do NOT see those downloads just contact Cakewalk and they should provide new links/fix your account.

The only time a purchase would be missing would be the FIRST boxed purchase (from the olden days of physical media) but even then I think Cakewalk provides online downloads in the case someone loses their discs (eg: I bought boxed X1 Production Suite as my intro product. If I lost the discs and wanted to install X1 I think I'd be able to get a downloadable version of the entire package... I THINK).

    So yeah...

Always bounce Region FX ASAP and if you aren't seeing a registered product in your store page contact support to get it sorted out.

It should also be noted that when they updated the store/forum site with the SSO stuff (right before X3 IIRC) they asked everyone to double check their accounts to make sure all their products were still in there. You may have had your X2 upgrade/downloads hoovered up during the switch... which can be remedied.

    Cheers.

You can always install V-Vocal from any old version of Sonar that shipped with it.

I was under the impression that you need to actually install the older version of Sonar, and that V-Vocal will not work if installed separately from a basic X2  installation. Is it possible just to do a custom install with V-vocal like you can with many other plugins?

Yes, V-Vocal is the exception. It requires a minimal install of SONAR to get the plug-in. IIRC, there is a drop down in the advanced install option to specify a minimal install.

I know sometimes we get stuck in our ways, im a good example (still using session drummer 3 for its drag and drop SFZ usage, but I would be much better of learning more about AD or BFD. im just lazy.
while it may not be your situation, that's mine.

with that being said, V Vocal is a toy compared to Melodyne.
it took me a while to bite on the end of the bullet and learn Melodyne as I did V Vocal.
now that I have, its so much easier then VV ever was.

    good luck.

I didn't actually mean to use V Vocal - I meant to use the Vocal align tool!
I only reinstalled V Vocal as clicking on it by mistake when it isn't there will one day lose a chunk of work so it had to be replaced.

The exclamation point was because I was a dummy and didn't look hard enough at what I was clicking on.
You didn't misunderstand my post and you have no reason to feel slighted - I quoted your post as I agree that Melodyne is better and I wouldn't normally open V Vocal.

Got to love the Internet and how people can get the wrong vibe.

Perhaps cakewalk could develop a tool to clean its installation libraries?  How are you guys finding and safely deleting old versions?

To me in the past,  it would be a matter of course as time goes on and Hard drives need replacing every couple of years. Now I'm wondering how long we go with our sporty little SSD  drives before a new C drive becomes needed?
I'm 2 years now and was not planning on replacing it for a couple more. It's a 240G and is still only at 30% as I have been cleaning out the CCC download folder as recommended here. I have at least 12 music software programs set up on it but no data.
