Beach Boys 50th Tour

Anybody see the Beach Boys on their 50th Anniversary tour in 2012?  The audio CD was released this year. Normally I don't jump on 'live' concert audio CDs, but the reviews have been very positive. Now after listening, I have to agree. Very nicely done. I guess my curiousity is whether they actually sound this good live, or was there a lot of post-production done? I do assume that these recordings possibly came from multiple shows as opposed to just one show. Maybe they took the best of, so to speak. All I can say from hearing this is that I wish I could have seen them if they sounded this good. (It also doesn't hurt that they included some great songs.)

Broken pencils are pointless.

If Keith Richards is still alive (debatable), then everyone else should still be alive.

I saw the show at Red Rocks. The band was a collection of Brian Wilson's band and the Beach Boy's band. They played over 40 songs with 1 intermission. The show and sound was fantastic and you can't really go wrong with the sound at RR. The harmonies were tight. I was lucky and got the V.I.P. treatment with seats by the sound board and all access passes. I took my 5 year old to the sound check. He was climbing on the rocks behind the stage during the sound check and security tried to stop him. A band member told her to let him climb. after they played a few tunes and finished up we were walking around on the stage. I told my little guy not to touch anything. With that he walked right up to an SM57 set up on a stand for sax and struck a pose. I couldn't help but take some pictures with my phone. I brought the little guy home and brought my wife and some neighbors to the show. I'll try to find some pictures to upload.

I guess we shouldn't forget that two of the original family members did not make it this far.

Lucky you getting to see the pre-show and the show!
Thanks for confirming that their harmonies are tight performed live. On the audio-CD they are spectacular. They still got it.

Unfortunately, the DVD/BR video release only includes about 20-songs from the show. It is getting some bad reviews because of this.

I just bought the Blu Ray. They did a awesome tribute to Carl Wilson with video footage of Carl and played "God only knows" to Carl's vocal track.

I went to see them in the 80's. Brian Wilson played a bit of piano, but mostly walked around looking at the pretty lights. He wasn't quite up to par back then. They did sound good though and they are a huge piece of pop culture, so I encourage anyone that's interested to see them before they break out the walkers'.

Thanks for that pic Rocky. I used to live just over the hill behind Red Rocks. Used to climb down and sneak into all kinds of shows there. Good times....
