Beatles covers project....
Here's more to the continuing effort of us trying to do some Beatles covers for a project we are working on. I've previously posted Dear Prudence, And Your Bird Can Sing & She Said, She Said. Here are three more and by the way.... none of these are considered "finished" with final mixing or mastering yet. Hopefully you can enjoy them! Next year will be the 50th year since 'She Loves You' was released and forever changed the sound of pop. So, we tried this one.... http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=9651633 Always loved the R&B / Country infused 'Doctor Robert'... http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10931051 The Rickenbacker 12 string dominated 'If I Needed Someone'.... http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10856303 They were all done with real instruments and real amplifiers in my little project studio using SONAR 8.5.3 with an RME FF800 and various decent microphones, like the EV Nd468, AT4033, AKG C414 & a Rode NT2000. Cheers

Any time you cover an iconic band like The Beatles, you take a risk. In this case, you succeeded quite well. The vocals and instruments are very convincing. Of course, recording techniques have changed over the years, and I can hear the difference, but it doesn't take away a thing, IMO. I give you much credit for being so ambitious.

Hi Lynn, Thank you for the kind words! We are all too aware the risk of treading on sacred ground. We hope to tread lightly. Although they are not "exact" copies, we tried to retain enough of the key elements of the originals to allow them to be as you said... "convincing". The truth is, we are having a blast going back and figuring out how they crafted these songs. They were some clever fellows! I don't expect a lot of you folks (fellow musicians) to pay much attention to these because they are so, well... passe. But for us, these were the foundation of why we wanted to learn music and perform it. All the best!

Well, I have no idea in what project anyone could use those songs because of the copyright dragons, but I agree with Lynn and tell ya, not to bad a job there. But then I doubt if you are as nuts as this guy (whose website was still up) putting together bits and pieces of old Beatles songs and saying it was a new album from a parallel universe. Took the link down, put the actual website in another post.

Actually forget that guardian uk link as they do not like any articles they put up to be discussed, so here is the real website from the nutcase! http://www.thebeatlesneverbrokeup.com/ Only this website can be listed then.

Michael - I agree, bedrock sounds right! cheers spacecalf - I don't know... that stuff is weird. I hope you don't think we're like that. As far as licensing is concerned, it's easy through HFA.

I was going to pass on these, as I am usually uninterested in covers and I am pretty sick of the Beatles and Paul McCartney in general, but I will admit I am pretty impressed. You seemed to nail the harmonies well. The only thing that stands out as different is the mix, which in many cases had vocals on one side, guitar on the other in the original recordings.

foxwolfen - thanks for giving them a listen! glad you were "pretty impressed". I intentionally did not do the original panning EMI did, which was weird in my opinion. I applied a more modern soundstage approach. I worked hard on getting the guitar sounds in the ball park using vintage guitars and amps. Unfortunately, we don't have vintage vocals.
