Beatscape Help Recording

First, Let me apologize that i am new to the whole recording thing. I have been trying in vein to record some drum beats to a track in cakewalk. First, Is it done with an audio or midi file? The problem i think comes after i open up the beatscape from soft synths. I find the loops that i want to use (just for a simple beat-similiar to a metronome sound to begin with), then arm the track. I can see that the music is being heard in the beatscape track, but it does not show any recording in the track file. I have tried it as a simple instrument track and a midi track. I can hear the beat thru my monitors. I have tried using a bus and not using a bus. Either way it does not want to seem to work. Please feel free to laugh, poke fun, and ridicule me. I really want to learn this stuff so i can get this music out of my head. I have Sonar 8 producer, beatscape, beat fetish, session drummer, dimension pro and LE. Please advise. Also, how do you get a loop to play in Dimension Prop or LE after you load it in? Seems there is a problem there too. I keep trying to use the cakewalk transport play and record. (Same with Beatscape after i get the loop running, i arm the track and press record in the transporter. PLease advise. Thank you in advance for the help.

If you're using SONAR 64bit, Beatscape won't record. Its 32bit. You can reinstall SONAR to 32bit. Or have them both.

I have recorded with Beatscape with 64 bit.  I press 'record' trigger my pads in the order I want them.  When I am done I do not see the waves in the track, what I believe happens is it records your triggers.  So I then hit, 'freeze' on the track and 'whalah' there are the waves.

    Hope this works for you

I tried the technique that LPMike 75 mentioned but had no success.  I'm running on Windows 7 64.  I have no more room on my primary drive to do another install of 8.5  so I'm bummed out that this very cool plug in isn't going to function.  Any ideas if a workaround for 64 bit users is in the works.  The progression to 64 bit is picking up.

Do you have "enable midi output" checked?  Go to "insert-softsynth-beatscape" make sure enable midi output is checked there.

I am a 64 bit user and I just recorded a beatscape track with the instructions I posted above and it worked perfectly for me.  Beyond this I do not know what the problem could be, if this does not work for you I wish you luck hopefully someone with more expertise than I can chime in.

What size is your primary drive? If it's almost full you're bound to run into problems in the future (and not just with Beatscape or SONAR)...

I just did what Mike said with a 64-bit install and it worked fine. When I inserted Beatscape I also selected "All synth audio outputs: stereo". I then recorded my pads and afterwords hit "Freeze synth" (not "Freeze track"). Each pad then mixed down and I could see the pads play back as this happened though you won't hear anything.  This can take a while (I used all 16 pads and went on and on :-) ) After the mixdown I now have an audio track for each pad so I can add effects here (I had issues trying to use effects in Beatscape itself).  Very cool!  I'm going to listen to this on my drive into work later this morning.  Thanks for the post Mike!
