Beatscape
I've just started playing around with Beatscape, despite having had it since it first came out. I am interested in using it to trigger wav files that i have in a directory on my computer. I have dragged/dropped a few of these waves onto pads in Beatscape Beatscape seems to automatically create the slice lines according to it's 'best guess'. The problem is that the samples sound choppy and disjointed, and usually have clicks throughout associated with the adjusted timing created by the slices. Beatscape help says you can remove slice lines, but I am not able to do it. When i click on REMOVE from the menu, nothing happens. Are there any Beatscape experts that can help me with this one? Thanks in advance. Chez

I am also not able to get the step slice triggers to work. i.e. the low C keys on my keyboard midi controller are triggering the pads ok, but the slice keys are not doing anything. Something silly?

Do we really need Beatscape and Matrix, anyone actually use these on a regular basis? most people I talk may have opened them once to see what the hype was all about, then never actually use them for anything....Just occupying space, just my opinion!!!

there will be a video coming out soon on the matrix...if youve never used it you dont know what your missing...if you use the tv to drop everything into and want to rearange a song..its a lot of work...in the matrix its all grab and move to a new cell..it where creative flows..

chuckebaby there will be a video coming out soon on the matrix... That's good news ... I'm looking forward to that! I dabble with the matrix on a regular basis, and I certainly welcome the concept. But I think we will have to wait for Matrix 2.0 before it becomes a really useful part of the tool set.

You can left mouse click on the slice then use your mouse wheel to zoom in and move the slices where you need them. Also if you use the mouse to select a slice marker you can delete it with D.

It would be great if there was more documentation on it. You have to select the slice triggers you want to remove. The problem is how. ???

Agreed--great idea, lousy implementation, and worse documentation. Shouldn't there be a cursor line that plays through the slices in editing mode? I can't record a "performance" to a track by using the synth rack keys on screen--it only records when triggered from an outboard MIDI keyboard. Are these design shortcomings or actual glitches in my version?

Are these design shortcomings or actual glitches in my version? That's how Beatscape works. It's a shortcoming in my opinion. You can also record Beatscape with the step sequencer but recreating the performance as it plays in Beatscape is a headache.

Chez Jonesy I am also not able to get the step slice triggers to work. i.e. the low C keys on my keyboard midi controller are triggering the pads ok, but the slice keys are not doing anything. Something silly? What you need to do is set t he pad in question to a particular output (same number as the pad I suppose would be preferable) then set both the MIDI track and your MIDI keyboard to that channel number, this will play individual pad slices. Swimming against the tide a bit here, I'm not a big fan of using loops (and maybe not a loop manipulation expert) but I now Iike Beatscape as it enables a lot of fairly detailed manipulation of loops at beat/slice level to the point where they're unrecognisable from the original while still being straightforward to use. Mind you, I also gave up on it for months at first, not even installing it with 8.5. But I persevered, watched a vid or two and now find it quite useful.

Or you could always try Kontact. I also use Battery or phatmatrix pro depending on what I want to do. Kontact is the most powerful for sure, but can also be a bit intimdating.
