Beatscape - recording

What is the right way to set up Beatscape, so a triggered pad records to a track..I am not getting it at this point.

Thanks

For me, the right way has always been to use something else. I just never found Beatscape elegant to my workflow at all.

Well that says a lot. I guess Matrix View would work just as well if not better....

You have to enable Midi out when you insert the beatscape track, then you're supposed to be able to record pads, or from the built in keyboard (although having said that, it doesn't appear to record things as you'd expect - pads seem to work more or less, but I haven't had much success with slices - perhaps I'm doing it wrong)

I may just scrap it for now---it seems kind of lame - although some of the  individal   sounds are not bad. I also notice that it does not appear that (or it seems) that an actual keyboard cannot be used to trigger with the  keys corresponding to those on the virtual keyboard....Anyway I have moved on. I don't think we've talked. I hope you might check  out my songs on the soundclick site with my signature...

Have you watched any of the beatscape videos?  You can just go to Youtube and type in Beatscape for the search and you will get a list of a number of tutorial/how to videos.  These may help even though most are done with 8.0 or 8.5 but the process is basically the same.

Beatscape's implementation is so totally wonky, and it's missing a few key loop-mangling features to make it a go-to loop workstation. Sheesh it's been so long since I even opened it.

I wish Cake would've bought Phatmatik PRO or just emulated it a bit. I suppose they could add the loop stuff to Session Drummer tho...that would be rad.

Did not watch the videos--noticed they were available. This is my first time every opening it, went all the way through 8.5, now X1 and just took a look. I don't think I will get too attached to it.

I really like SD 3  since I watched the Cakewalk - University video on the Percussion Strip settings for each kit-part and have it sounding sweet - especially with theh Ocean Way kit.

I started using the step sequencer for triggering Beatscape in X1.
I get some background riffs that are real good.

But I`m still using an external drum machines for most of my
drum tracks. I also use percussion pads for adding some human color
back into quantizied patterns. I like a lot of the Beatscape loops,
for me, they are a good place to get fresh ideas.
Since I am mainly a vocalist, keyboardist, guitarist, devoting my time to percussion is my weak area.
The vast library of patterns, helps me write material in new directions. But the user interface,
takes some time. I like the X1 version much better than 8.5 stuff.

    Good luck,
