Twigman, I think the samples are good but you are right about the articulations.  I guess my needs are simple so it works well.

For a few songs, I use the Yamaha Megavoice basses (found in Motifs, Tyros, etc.) to get additional articulation.

This thread is very interesting!  I'll have to re-read it later after I set up my software and get closer to the point of having polished songs -- for now they're rough drafts.  Thanks!

timidi, I have a JV-1080 with four expansions: bass & drums, pop, orch I, and orch II.  The JV is still my go-to unit for a lot of sounds. 

Cool. Yea, I've been using mine alot lately. I don't have any ex packs.
