Behringer X1204USB Popping - SOLVED

Just wanted to pass this along to anyone else who may be having similar issues. I have a Behringer 1204USB mixer. The mixer itself is really a nice versatile mixer for the money. However, I was having a problem of popping noises during playback and recording. Tried a lot of things, including increasing the latencies (Output at 69.5 ms, input at 24.3ms) and decreasing sampling rate (down to 44.1/16). Nothing seem to help. I was even contemplating downgrading to Windows 7 from Windows 8.1 to see if that would help. This is not an old machine with no horsepower either. I am using a Sonar Studio X3e on an HP Envy h8-141, AMD FX-6120 six core processor and 10GB ram, so there is enough 'umph' to push it!

Then I read the note posted by Beepster on turning off MS Security Essentials (http://forum.cakewalk.com/A-note-about-Microsoft-Security-Essentials-and-Sonar-Turn-it-off-m3047841.aspx). After going through and turning off MSSE and disconnecting from the 'net, I still had issues. So then I decided to turn off the WiFi adapter...and the popping went away! Not only did it go away, but the performance of the board has significantly improved. My latency is at 2.2 in and 6.4 out, and I have bumped up the sampling rate to 48/24.

Based on this little episode, I will tell you that if you have a problem with any audio interface, take a look at some of the unlikely sources. You never know what might be causing the interference!

I am going to get its small brother - qx1002. Not for recording. But from all specifications I could find, the limit of the whole XENYX series is 48/16. Are you sure you could "bump" it to 24bit?

Yeah - Wi-Fi adapters are notorious for massive latency spikes that interfere with Sonar audio quality.  I post fairly frequently, advising folks to be careful with those anytime I become aware that someone has a laptop or a desktop with an added Wi-Fi adapter.

Glad you have that set of issues resolved.  :)

My bad - you are correct. I was looking at the Audio Driver Bit Depth which is 24. So I have it at 48/16.

By the way, Mandolin Picker - I TOO am in Maryland (Laurel), and am a keyboard player who also plays some guitar.

If you EVER need any free keyboard tracks or backing vocals, please feel free to give me a call.  It looks like I am not allowed to send you my contact information in a Private Message, for some reason.  Sooo, IF you have any interest in me laying down any tracks for you, I guess you will have to send a PM to me.
