More precise description what does not work can help to find the answer...
Sure..sorry. I want to use this device more for keyboard shortcuts like loops, punch, Smart tool, Select, Rewind, Forward instead of using my keyboard.. (in keyboard shortcut window) I make the link, but the device does not respond when I hit the assigned buttons.
MIDI assignments in keyboard shortcuts are working only in combination with "Shift" MIDI key. If you assign some button to "Shift", than combining it with other defined shortcut should work.
That is probably not what you have expected. For that Sonar has ACT / Control Surfaces plug-ins. And that is the only way to use encoders. Unfortunately for that particular case standard "Cakewalk ACT MIDI" plug-in does not fit, it support 8 buttons only. My own plug-in (see my signature) has no such limitations (but more complicated to initially configure).
You can check with Mackie Control and MCU mode on X-Touch, if the emulation includes Functions keys, they are user configurable. 8 only, but other controls do useful default staff (f.e. transport).
Another alternative is to use external MIDI->Keystroke programs.
