Bell sound - what synth to use?

I want a real bell sound, like chucrch bells - any bell will do. I do not want to download any sampled sounds, from churches with traffic noise in the background etc. I want to play it on my MIDI keyboard.

The TTS-1 has "glockenbspiel" etc, but I am a little puzzled, I have not found any real bell sound, in any of the supplied synths that came with Sonar X1 Producer. Is there a synth in Sonar X1 Producer which has this by default?

I would have thought that there must be one in Dimension Pro.

Studio:
X3 Producer on i7 4770K Asus Z87-K 32Gb G-Skill Trident X. W8.1 x64. 2408 Mk3, ADI8-DD. BCF2000.
Stage:
Cantabile Performer 2 on Lenovo W530 i7 3720QM 16Gb DDR3. Samsung 840 Evo, Samsung 840 Pro. W7 x64.

There are 32 bells in Dimension pro, no one even near a "real" natural bell. I will explain what I want, you know, some companies have a bell hanging in their lunch room, which they sound when they have a big  sales success, an aniversary etc. I do not need chucrch bells, this bell is sufficient.
This is the sound I am after.
In the old days, they had such bells on farms, to signal that dinner was ready so that the folks working in the fields would come home to eat.

I highly doubt you'll find anything similar in Sonar's synths (or any manufacturers synth/sampler). As simple as it seems.

I know you mentioned not wanting to download a sample, but worst case, you may want to check out freesound.org. They have tons of samples, some very good quality stuff - maybe you'd find the particular sound you're looking for there. You could just load that sample in either Dimension or Dropzone and play it w/ your midi keyboard.

Good luck.

I was after a similar sound a while ago, and after  fairly extensive search, I didn't find it anything that came with Sonar, or indeed any other synth I own.

Haven't tried it, but there's this free vst :

http://www.vst4free.com/free_vst.php?plugin=Carillon&id=161
You could also try some of the free FM synths out there, liike Oxe FM or CuteVst's Hexeter as they normally have decent bell sounds.

Ok, thank you guys. I can sample it myself, I know of such a bell, but I have to drive a  while, bringing my sound recorder. My memory is not good it seems, because I think I heard this sound when I first started using Sonar.. Maybe the sound was inside my head.. :)

Well, field recording is fun, on the upside.

A quick search for 'school bell' on Ebay brought up lots, ranging from $7 to $50. Maybe check the junk shops? You'd have more control over the sound with a bell in the studio.

Thanks, school-bell or ships-bell is the name for the bell I am after. I found tons of these sounds out there, yes. But still I might sample my own.
It is this, I just I can't get over that I am sure I heard this from a built in synth when I first purchased Sonar 6 four years ago..
Ok, no reason to ponder more about this.

if you have Kontakt, go to www.sampletekk.com and he has some bell samples there which might work for you.

A triangle bell?  That's what I think of when you say dinner bell.  Lassie come home and all of that.  It is differnet than a musical instrument and would classify more as a sound effect.

The best thing for that would be a sample.  free sounds, as above, and just google it.  Also look for Soundfonts (there is a spot for those, tho it may be free sounds).  Particularly the entire voice sets - I have one that has several washermachine sounds laid out next to another - very industrial.  It is tedious to go through all 128 sounds, but maybe worth it.  SFZ player will play them.  If it ain't in Producer, it is free on the Cake site, I believe.

Ok, I mean a ships-bell. I live in Norway, and on some farms, you can still see the "bell-towers" they had, with a real ships-bell. A triangle, hm.. wonder how they could hear that out on the fields.
Thanks for the tips. I am reather new in this business, and know nothing about sound fonts so far.. but soon..

Here you go, I just sampled a few bells from my Roland 5080/SRX orchestral expansion. Best bells I know of. Just download the .wav & cut up the samples to use with the sampler of your choice.
