Ben's Adventures With Notion 3
Ok I'd thought I start a similar thread to my X1 one this time detailing Notion 3, I think Notion 3 is a Cakewalk product if I can buy a bundled copy, so I hope this is an appropriate place to talk about it. Well after buying the software about a month ago I finally got around to putting it on my machine, this was because I was waiting for a clean install of windows 7 and another hard drive for the samples. Installation went smoothly and once I fired it up and listend to The Nutcracker one of the supplied demp peice's I was blown away. it sounded like an orchestra, the only thing I could notice was the attack and release times on some of the instruments, were not great but at 300$ retail this is a quibble. Ok so I started to punch in a track of mine that needed a proper string quartet. All I can say it is going to be a steep learning curve. Also I have not got it to work as a rewire instrument yet, first it couldn't see it, this is because I need to set X1 to share drivers I think and I still have not been able to open it, the instrument now that X1 can see it. This is because it seems to take control of my interface and change the sample rate I think. Ok will keep everybody informend Ben

Ok I have got over the first problem, which was the rewire problem, it turns out you have to insert Notion 3 as a Rewire device and then open the software outside of Sonar if that makes any sence. Peace Ben

Ok time for another update, have spent the afternooon getting aquainted with Notion 3. It's a steep learning curve but a good one. it rewires well into X1 but here is a sticky problem, it doesn't seem to like 96k which is what the track I am working on is in. More investigation is warrented. Ben

Every rewire instrument works like Ben. Open P5 in slave mode

Sorry time difference Backwoods, umm actually I could start Project 5 within Sonar. This is what confused me, I don't use rewire and don't tend to like it to much, it's too clunky but it all works. Ben

Ok just found out that Notion 3 is only 44.1k, that is a ****. I love the software but for me classical should be at a higher sample rate, now I have to find a work around on the peice I am working on at the moment. Peace Ben

Ben... I use 44.1 on everything @ 16 or preferred, 24 bits. 16/44.1 is after all CD quality and the industry standard. Technically, anything above 44.1/16 would be better, but the average listener can not hear the difference between 16 and 24...... or 44.1 and 48..... so as far as it concerns me, I don't worry. I track in 24bits @ 44.1khz. Recently I noticed that one track which was imported, was in 16.... not 24. If I had not seen that, I would never have known. Using higher sample rates makes for larger files. So to conserve HD space.... I use the standards and mostly mono files where I can. Just my 2 cents.

Did you run into Asio problem? For some reason asio was a problem. I found this out after talking to notion support.
