Best DAW controller for Sonar?

Hi I'm thinking of upgrading from a Behringer BCF2000 to full controller for Sonar 6. Looking to spend between £500 to £800 so was wondering what anyone could recommend?. Have seen the M Audio Projectmix which looks good, also Mackie HUI and Logic mk1. I think Yamaha and Tascam also make one in this price range.

Really need faders (motorised), knobs and track display but don't need lots of audio/outboard connections as it's just for mixing in Sonar really

Any advice much appreciated

regards,

Martin

I'd suggest upgrading to Sonar 8 first. Best bang for your £

If you want just a controller a Mackie control universal is probably one of the better choices.

    Thanks guys,

I can only see the Mackie Control Universal PRO for sale in the UK, is this what you mean or is there a lower model. The PRO is retailing around £850

Maybe I'm wrong, but the Euphonix is Mac Only ; I don't think Sonar 8 is now available as a Mac app, so you may only use it under Bootcamp with mackie control emulation

In a way, you can "use" the Euphonix MC control with Sonar (as every surface control that emulates the Mackie protocol) but you will not benefit from most of it ; but once again... maybe I'm wrong

Yep, both the AlphaTrack and Tranzport are great. I use mine all the time and they work very nicely with SONAR...

My understanding is that at present the Euphonix Artist series (MC Mix and MC Control) work only on Macs. Maybe that will change but so far, that's the deal. Sonar says it supports Euphonix but does not specify which models, but Euphonix is pretty clear that that series is Mac-only.

You might be able to use Sonar with the cross platform MC Pro... http://euphonix.com/pro/post/mc_pro/ ... but they're not cheap. It will make the new VS700 look like a fantastic deal, which it might well be. And that's the cheapest of the production consoles they make - the others are just silly. Beautiful, but silly.

My vote goes to the AlphaTrack. Does most of what everything else does and makes them all look expensive (except maybe the Behringer, though without touch-sensitive faders or a display I find that a bit too limited).

+1 AlphaTrack. Best bang for buck hardware since UAD IMHO. You can set up as many templates as you want to control the 8'F' buttons - track, mix, master. Change it's usage in seconds w/ them. HTH, Shep

I use a Mackie Control Universal, & a Tranzport, a BCF2000 & a myriad of other configurations for Control Surfaces. Mackie Control is the easiest to grasp as far as the interface & Sonar for me at least but the Tranzport is super easy with more mobility but less functionallity. Wildman
