Best Helpful Video?
Hi Guys! I know there are many helpful videos on Sonar out there. I have checked them out and have found many specific topics covered (Session Drummer, Comping, Pro Channel, etc) but I think I would best learn to start by seeing somebody do a quick video of a project from start to finish (tracking, mixing, mastering using both MIDI and audio). Is there anything out there like this that anybody can point me to? I'm a beginner on X3 Studio. Also, what current version should I have as of 7-14-2014 (X3c, X3d ??)? Thanks so much for your help in advance. JohnBee

I am unaware of a comprehensive SONAR video that takes a project from beginning to end. Most tutorials are feature oriented. But I have not been looking for production oriented SONAR videos. Update X3 to X3e here http://www.cakewalk.com/S...13361/SONAR-X3e-Update

I generally like the videos at Groove3.com. They are not free but you can either purchase individual videos or get a monthly subscription to all videos for about $15 US. The Sonar series is not really task-based; it is more feature-based but it is pretty comprehensive.

I actually typed up a response yesterday ... but it disappeared during posting. In addition to the Groove3 "Mixing with Sonar" is the " Sonar X3 Explained" video which covers Recording and Mixing to what they term the 'final mix' and export. I suggest that knocking up a 'quick' video is a bit of a stretch on a process so broad.

I fully concur. I consume and repeatedly view pretty much everything Sonar training oriented. It all helps! Groove3 has the easiest to digest approach, while others like Karl's mega tutorials or Scott's Power books are chock full of reference info. But for the big picture walk through of how to actually apply the tools of Sonar to a song - Mixing With Sonar by Bill Edstrom on Groove 3 is worth watching many times. It was put together at the latter timeframe of X1, but 90 percent of it or better is still very relevant. The other Groove 3s on Sonar by Eli are always excellent. He's the Guru if there ever was one for teaching this stuff. He covers just about everything on the market, so he definitely delivers. I would say on CakeTV Live you can also watch 4 or more nearly 90 min each webinars by Cakewalk that cover putting together songs end to end, and these are free. They are excellent and are well worth watching. Look for Brandon and Ryan webinars on CakeTV Live. Very helpful.
Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

I did a quick Google search of: youtube sonar project start to finish x3 and got back several videos indicating start to finish tutorials - didn't check them out, but quick enough to do. Bob Bone
