Unfortunately Roland Fantom drivers are (were) not updated to Win 8.1 !#?! So make sure your MIDI controller supports Win 8.1. The thing 'touch' did, which I liked, is that it afforded swift 'pinching' and scrolling of tracks and certain X-browser windows. (Way to go CW!) ... and because Win 8 is obsolete and proven buggish with regards to touch ... I regressed BACK to Win 7-64 ... which has proven 'OK' for X2 and X3c. Personally, touch screens have NOT significantly enhanced my work-flow ... and interfered slightly for that vital mouse precision ... but the day will come for 8.1 to be able to compliment dozens of tracks and lanes in X-windows. ... (mouse precision is perhaps 99% of your/my workflow ... so touch is no big deal for an OS, IMO, JMO, IMHO, etc.)

I wondered if touchscreens would replace control surfaces. Does Win 8 and X3 allow you to use a touchscreen to move faders and "twist" knobs? What do you mean that Win 8 is obsolete with regards to touch? Did they get rid of touchscreen support? ld

Bristol_Jonesey I haven't had a single OS problem with Win 7 since the day it was installed on my machines. IMHO it is absolutely rock solid
I absolutely agree 100%. Exactly same experience for me! So it's 7 for me all the way. If it ain't broke!!

ftl, For what it's worth, X3 will run on Vista. The documents indicate this, but it is not supported by Cakewalk. I have been running it on Vista Home Premium(32 bit) for several months. The only significant glitch so far has been the VST scanner and related Plug-in Manager. The VST scanner included with X3 calls a port that does not exist in Vista. It's an easy workaround, if you know it's coming, though. Before you install X3, rename the VST scanner and plug-in manager. Add a bogus word to the end of the filename. The X3 install will add a new VST scanner and Plug-in manager. Delete these. Then remove the bogus word from the old filename. If you have any VST's in other folders (ie;Steinberg) you will want to move them to Cakewalk/VSTPlugins. From here, when you open X3, it will scan this folder, and you should be good to go. Of course, if you have upgraded to W7/W8, it's a non-issue.

You are probably correct, scook. X3c was not yet available when I upgraded. From the link, it appears the matter has been addressed. Other than that little hiccup, X3 has been rock solid, much to my delight.
