Best SONAR survey ever.

I liked the nature of the questions and I especially liked the ability to add comments. I felt there might be some opportunity to explain my grading choices.

I agree Mike. I liked the questions asked in the survey. And the fact that they let you comment on your choice says an awful lot about what they are wanting to know. How do we really use this product.

I agree! The questions asked were relevant and the comment fields served as a feature request opportunity. Like it!

I also thought this was a worthwhile survey.  I really believe they want to know what we want.

I thought it was odd - very short and angled really at one topic, whether I use layering.  Almost as if someone was working on something and thought, 'I know, I'll bung out a quick survey.'  Clicking the link, I was expecting something more comprehensive, or maybe they think out attention spans would be too short!

Most people will not bother with long surveys (I know I won't because I don't have the time), so I think it's better to have multiple ones that are short and focused. We'll probably be seeing more as the year goes on... no, I don't have any inside word on that.

Yes this was a very good survey. I also agree with Scott about shorter surveys being more useful than longer surveys that cover far more topics but will take much longer to complete. As a result Cakewalk will likely not have many completed surveys of that type sent back from users.

Even though it was short, I thought they hit the topics I see come up here often, for example who does loop based vs through composed pieces.

So for instance they didn't ask "do you want staff view enhancements?" but there was a question there (don't remember the exact wording) that asked about how I use Sonar compositionally.

I guess I saw it as a short survey that hit the high points of how I use Sonar.

    2) We don't want mike as a customer. make a note, not to send any emails.

Honestly CW's e-mail system has seemed to be pretty hit and miss.  I've gone through periods where I got zilch and others were obviously getting stuff.  Since I'm neither loved nor hated AFAIK I'll go with it's random chaos :-)

    A) They have a secret agreement with Sony.
    B) You must stop playing games at your work...

Anyway - I also got the survey.

The majority of questions were around audio recording and the takes system. I can't recall seeing any major complaints about these functions in Sonar. Are there any?

I was tempted to include a link to the wiki page on notation in every comment field, but decided to be productive and fill it in properly. :D

Oh, yes. As soon as you try to do multiple takes of multitrack material the system falls apart.

Regarding the survey's focus: I suspect that they have plenty of feedback on many other aspects of the program like notation. (lots of forum discussion on that) They know what needs to be done there, they just need to do it.  I'm guessing that they felt like they didn't have a handle on everyone's likes, dislikes, needs with respect to takes and comping so they put out a quick survey.

How about a notation questions like:

If you utilize the Staff View:

    1) How often do you input or edit MIDI data using the Staff View?
    2) Do you use Staff View in conjunction with Piano Roll View?
    3) What minor improvements would you suggest for the Staff View?
    4) Do you "really" need to print engraving quality scores from Sonar?
