They are, but you then have to break them in to get them where they sound good.

That's a strange, I don't change my bass strings until I break them. My current set have lasted 25 years so far......

See, that's why you are an amateur. The pros know that a bass string is untunable after 15.

Hang on... hang on this is too much info at once. First I discover you can change strings and now you're telling me you can tune a bass too..........

Producer walks in to the studio to find the bass player beating up on the drummer.

"Whoa! What's going on here?"

BP: "This asshat detuned one of the strings my bass!"

"Dude, you're beating on him for that??"

BP: "He won't tell me which one!"

Agree with my old pal yorolpal
dr.hash & yorolpal ... good to see you two smooched and made up!

I use an old DOD DI box that runs off Phantom power and then I use iZotope's Alloy on the bass track. I like having the EQ/Comp/Limiter all in one convenient package. Totally changed my mixes when I started using this combo.

I also agree with those mentioning the Sonitus Comp. I hope Cake doesn't decide the Sonitus suite is getting too old and scrap it in future versions. I still use Sonitus Reverb for everything.

UPDATE: I forgot to mention that I run it through Guitar Rig Pro 4's Bass Amp as well as using the DI box.

That reminds me of an interview with Chic bassist Bernard Edwards, who, when asked what bass guitar strings he used, replied; "What strings does a Fender Precision come with?"

His playing didn't sound too shabby though

Well, most times there's no need unless you break one or run out of these: http://www.kendallhq.com/kendallhealthcare/pageBuilder.aspx?topicID=79291&breadcrumbs=0:121623,154339:0,155110:0

Best little things I ever bought. You just have to be careful you don't touch the neck or any other wood. Wrap the little pad around the string and wipe. Makes them last a long time and works great on guitar strings too. :)

+1 Cytomic "The Glue" is great because it gives simple NY Compression which boosts the heart and soul of the bass but doesn't squash the life out of it.

I also agree with earlier posts - Sonnitus and VC both work very well on Bass too.
