Dreamkeeper, you are right, I misunderstood what you were saying when I first read your reply. The mute tracks isn't needed. Yes, just click the track name to activate. I was looking for the inline box that comes up to ask which track you want to enter a note on and that was the method to bring it up. Totally unneeded in this case.
I just posted in another thread that you can change tracks(colour) just by clicking with the smart tool double headed arrows(4 arrows) and you then can enter notes in that track without going over to the track menu on the right.
