Best (cheapest) "transformer-izer" plug in

What is the best plug in to emulate the sound that a good transformer produces in audio?

What about a cheap (yet usable) one?

I've seen, e.g., an EQ plug in that also has this feature but I can't recall its name. I mean if it's good and cheap enough you could bypass the EQ part and have it just for "transformer-izing".

I'm hoping there is a fix for this soon.  None of my MH Plugins work
in Sonar, but they work fine in SO3 and Pro Tools, and all my other
DAW's...

Yup, this is what their support told me.

Thanks for your email.  At the moment we are aware of an incompatibility with Sonar X3e. We are in touch with
Cakewalk, who has informed us they will look into it when they have a chance. We are hopeful we can add compatibility
in a future update of the Production Bundle. Please stay in touch.

I don't know if any of SONAR's channel strip or compressor plugins have a transformer emulation, but I do have one via Slate Digital's FG-401 VCA Compressor in the Virtual Mix Rack (VMR). I suspect other channel strip plugins do, as well. If you have an iLok2, you can get a demo version of VMR. Then, run your signal through the compressor with all controls zeroed out (i.e., NO compression), but with the transformer engaged (it's switchable).

I like and use from the these:

TubePreAmp (One of my favorites)
IVGI (I bought the upgrade as well - SDRR)
SGA1566 - (resource hog but worth it sometimes)
TesslaSE (mentioned earlier - many other vst warming options on this page of plugins)
TB ReelBus (evolving over time with new releases from a solid to really good option)

Got Blue Cat PatchWork? As soon as you have Character (and I presume the other MH plugins as well) within PW, it works swimmingly!

I realize that you could use a "wrapper" but I shouldn't have to...that's a given...

Agreed. Just happy to have figured out a work-around --- esp. since my Sound Forge 10 didn't agree with the Character either.

Speaking of which, I just got the New "Agent" wrapper free
with the latest issue of Computer Music...maybe I'll give that whirl!
