Indeed. Even if it were 10 years old, it's a great idea. Okay, I'll stir the pot some more, in the area of security this time...
If your Windows DAW is connected to the internet, you should be using an antivirus program. There are several good (and free) ones out there, but I like Avast! because you can easily shut off its on access scanner component. Nice if you are preparing to do some recording and need to reduce CPU and other resource usage during your session. I also use a firewall and spyware blockers. For the former, I've tried several; haven't decided which I like best, maybe it was an older version of Comodo (formerly Kerio). It was free, and I think they still have a free one. For the latter, I use Adaware and Spybot SD (both also free for noncommercial use), and I run each of those about once a month.
