Best reverb that comes with S8.5 for strings?

I've been using the Sonitus reverb mostly for my pop/rock songs, but I am working on some strings pieces now and somehow the reverb just ain't right... What if the best reverb for strings that comes with S8.5 and which presets do you prefer?

Sonar 8.5 PE, Edirol FA-66, Behringer C-1. All instruments in my songs are VSTi's.

The best reverb will be the one that works best for your tune.  I like the Perfect Space rev. that comes with Sonar.  You can play around with the stock impulses, or download some (often free) impulse responses if you hunt around -- I found ones for Kurzweil, Bricasti, Lexicon halls/chambers/spaces/rooms.  Just experiment.

Sometimes, instead of using a reverb, you can get the same results using a delay.. or you can mess around with the pre reverb settings.. I like perfect space, but sonitus reverb right now is my go to reverb with what comes in sonar.. ozone 3 has a nice reverb also.

I've almost totally given up the normal reverbs. I don't think I can achieve anything with them.
Perfect Space and delays are what I use.

SONAR PE 8.5.3, Asus P5B, 2,4 Ghz Dual Core, 4 Gb RAM, GF 7300, EMU 1820, Bluetube Pre  -  Kontakt4, Ozone, Addictive Drums, PSP Mixpack2, Melda Creative Pack, Melodyne Plugin etc.

PerfectSpace, for sure. Although I avoid convolution reverbs as a general rule, strings are the exception.  Use one of the bundled concert hall IRs.

Unfortunately I dump all my IR files into one place so I'm not sure which of them originally came bundled with PS and therefore can't recommend a specific one. Just try anything with the word "hall" in the name.

Backing strings in a pop song are fairly dry, so use shorter reverbs than you'd use for a classical orchestration. The exact length depends on the material. I start at 3 seconds and then gradually shorten it until it doesn't sound cluttered and murky, usually ending up somewhere around the 2 second mark. If you use a predelay at all, keep it short.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

I have gravitated to the Lexicon, I find the controls do what I want. The Other reverbs seem to take a lot more fussing with.  I am very picky and will never use a pre set anything.
I need to be able to tweak a knob and know what will happen when I set it. So The Lexicon controls are very clear and instantly gratifying. I've never questioned it's quality. I tend to not over do reverb anyhow. I defiantly use the hall on big strings. The tempo of a song dictates how big, fast song shorter times, slow songs can be huge.

There is no best one. Every verb has its purpose as things like this is all relative. You use the reverb that sounds its best for that situation. Using the same reverb and settings on 2 different tracks/songs will yield different results to your ear.

Try all of them and see what you like

Absolutely use your ears for everything- nothing's best for every song- but I think these are the 480L impulses for the perfect space that I really liked:

the large hall set I thought sounded really nice with strings. Cheers!

The primary problem with all of the bundled Cakewalk reverbs is that they aren't true stereo. Incoming stereo signals are summed to mono and then the reverb creates it's own pseudo-stereo output. It's not a big deal if you are just sending a mono vocal to it. However, if you are sending the reverb material whose stereo pan placement is important (usually the case with orchestral strings), all the panning information is lost and the stereo image coming from the output of the reverb is right down the center. Download the demo for ValhallaRoom if you want to hear true-stereo in action, not to mention a first-class algorithmic reverb. Regards, Jonas
