Best settings to score on video

Hi,

I did my first score on video, and the experience was not so great...

First, the video was skipping, (I only saw 1 image per second... really hard to score this way) even if the project is relatively small... 3 VST's a few effects...

The video I imported is a .mp4.  Should I convert it to .wmv, or .avi?

Also, on Sonar 8.5, when I exported the audio, only the actual audio files got exported, no VST's.  I opened the project in X1 and the audio exported correctly... (But the video is still skipping)

Thanks,

Someday Cakewalk may endorse an Intermediary video Codec that is suitable for reliable and smooth playback within SONAR.

I think addressing this issue, educating the end user, endorsing a specific solution, and perhaps doing a bundle deal with a suitable codec developer could be a huge win/win for Cakewalk and all the people who buy SONAR because it is advertised to work with video.

In the mean time you are going to have to familiarize yourself with the concept of Intermediary Codecs, and the purpose and benefits of using one.

You can select from several older, free, codecs that will work ok or you can purchase a contemporary codec that works a lot better. First you need to learn about the whole idea of using an Intermediary Codec.

If you start googling you'll find lots of info about it. Ignore the specifics at first. Apple did the best job of publishing the ideas so the you'll find a lot of info about Apple and Final Cut Pro solutions... just use that *Apple* and Pro Res info until you get the big picture idea and then start getting serious about finding a solution specific to your Windows and SONAR install.

    best regards,
    mike
