Best tutorial book?

Hi all,
I am now trying to learn a bit more about Sonar LE since its obvious I know little about it, and I struggle with the online help. Are there any decent beginners books out there? This forum is great but I cant ask it everything..

If you can still find any in print, books for Sonar 4 would be appropriate for your version.
While the fundamental stuff would apply, much of what is mentioned on the books is simply not available in Sonar LE.
For that matter, most of the tutorials included with Sonar4LE don't apply either.
In its day, Sonar4LE was a capable core program, minus most of the good stuff. The idea, of course was to whet your appetite, and encourage you to purchase the full version.
Which brings us to a strategy I would suggest, but it hangs on which operating system you are using now.
Please put your system specs, and particular equipment(such as your USB mic) in your signature.
You have probably noticed that many of us have this info. in our signatures. It's not for bragging rights, it helps to know what someone is working with and we can give useful answers much  more quickly.

actually the help files have everything you need. Not sure if your version has the complete help tutorials but if it does this is defiantly the best place to start.

I figured Sonar out buy doing 3 things:
1; Open the program and and open a MIDI file from my collection.
Poke around and try and edit the file. When I ran into a problem,
2: Open the help files and use the search function for my problem.
3: Use the forum in 2 ways, Ask questions and make a habit of reading as many posts as you can while drinking your morning coffee or relaxing at the end of the day.

If your version is X1LE then go read the X series forum, most of your basic stuff is in X1.
Read back through this forum if your version is older. Or even read the older Producer and Studio forum posts, skim for questions that are the same as yours. 80% of the way things work is shared by all versions of Sonar. And all audio interface and computer set up is shard by all DAW users.
Most of what I know about Sonar can from just reading this forum and the help files. The rest was from just poking around in the program itself. Spend an hour exploring all the icons and menus. Open things up to see what they are for.
I could use the program within about a month, but it took almost a year to fully command it and be the one who then started answering questions.
Gear Slutz is another good forum for just reading and learning about audio related stuff.
Warning- don't believe everything you read.. learn to see what can be correct information.

    Thanks for the system specs.
    Two things jump forward:
    1. You have Windows7
    2. You are using Sonar4LE( gleaned from your previous posts)
Sonar4LE was notoriously skinny on features, and is very dated for use on a fairly contemporary system.
Cactus raises a good point about the help files, but even then, much of what is referred to is not available in S4LE.
I would strongly urge you to upgrade to X3.
As a registered user, you can get it for $49US. It was designed for the W7 environment(which didn't exist when S4LE was written), If budget allows, I would go so far as X3 Studio.
I sincerely believe that this modest investment would help make your Sonar experience significantly easier and more fruitful.

What Bob said, good idea, it is real hard to run old outdated software and keep out of trouble.
LE is very bare bones, The basic recording features are good, but it does not come with any usable VST's or soft synths. You have to add those by purchasing or finding freebies.  I  own X1LE which came with a Roland Keyboard. Which gives me another idea for you. You really need 2 things, An Audio interface and a better version of Sonar. If you purchase a Roland Interface you'll get a copy of Sonar X1 LE, It might be that now you get X3 LE yet I have not seen that mentioned her yet.

Interesting comments, thanks. I have to be honest and say I actually prefer just writing stuff, and then getting it down in a sort of decent enough format; I have little patience with software, and dont like spending ages getting stuff right.I know that's not a very admirable trait though! But I agree, I really need to upgrade, as I am living in the dark ages...
