Best way to use Kontakt drums

As many know, setting up and configuring Kontakt could be frustrating. At least it is for me. I get things set up for multi track output in sonar and save the Kontakt configuration. Nest project I use the multi out configuration and its gone. Change a drum during a session and the mutli outs disappear. I know it's my fault but I find it stressful, and stress is the last thing I need.

As an alternative I'm now doing it this way. I mix the drums 80% in Kontakt and then run stereo into X1 and on to a drum buss where I add the last 20% such as room sound, a final eq of the mix and then some light compression to give it a little more body.

I think I could go much further with the sound if I ran individual instrument tracks in X1, but I don't know if would sound much better. And of course the stress of chasing gremlins.

Are users in general using either of these methods? I would like to hear how you capture the power of this incredible sound library.

Regards, John
