BiaB with TTS-1
Any of you made this work? What are you using for GM sounds?

yeah, that's the way I have mine set up because the Coyote wavetable wanted money after a certain period of time. I don't have BIAB in front of me right now, but I might be able to answer questions from memory if you have specifics you can give me.

TTS-1 isn't showing up my list of available DXi. At this point I'm thinking I need to hunt down a version of TTS-1 from a 32 bit installation. My attempts to register the copy from the 64 bit side are failing. Did TTS-1 ship with P5?

hmm, I didn't think that TTS-1 got "upgraded" for 64bit and thought it was 32bit application only? I could be remembering incorrectly, tho. you may be right. I'll check what I've got installed when I get home tonight (if I don't forget! ) as far as P5, I have no idea, I never purchased it.

I don't know if the current TTS-1 is 64 bit or not. When I use the register DX process in BiaB pointed to the current Shared DXi copy of TTS-1 I get an unrecognized error. Could be anything ...

well, seems I lied to you! I KNOW I had TTS-1 set up and was using it at one time, but I had already downloaded and installed 2016 last night, so I can't check what I had set up before last night. at this time, however, Coyote is the only thing I can select for DXi. I'll try to play around with it more and let you know if I find out anything.

Thanks for checking. Please do let me know what you come up with. Have you used jbridge? What about a decent GM soundfont? I could always use my ancient VSampler that BiaB uses without problems. I'm not looking for production quality. Just something to make reasonable decisions on whether or not to move to the DAW and get more serious about putting flesh on idea bones.

For what it's worth, the DX version of TTS-1 (which I got with SHS 6, I think) works fine in my X3 64-bit program.

Thanks Greg. TTS-1 is working fine for me in Plat-64 and X3-64 too. Not so much with BiaB. I'm just trying to figure out why. The error I get in BiaB is that the tts dll isn't a valid win32 file.

I don't even see that. In OPTIONS>PREFERENCES>MIDI DRIVER>SYNTHESIZER/SOUNDCARD pull down menu, I can choose Cakewalk TTS-1, but in the VSTi/DXiSynth Settings I can only choose either CoyoteWT or Sampletank 2. as long as Coyote doesn't ask me for money after a certain period of time, I'm content with it. I personally don't need really good sounding GM synth sounds for BIAB. as long as I can tell what the sound is (i.e. piano, sax, clarinet, guitar, etc) then I'm happy with a poor GM soundmodule because I KNOW I won't use it for anything final. any tracks I use from BIAB are imported into sonar as either Realtrack wave files, or I'll just import the MIDI into sonar and use Kontakt or whatever softsynth I have that's appropriate in sonar only. that way I don't have to deal with BIAB's clunky way of recording or mixing. Real Band is better, but it's still not Sonar, so I just don't use either one for anything other than creating the realtracks and MIDI tracks.

oh and as far as JBridge, I have not used it. I remember when sonar first went to 64 bit lots of people talked about it then, but I never did use it then either.

oh, and JBridge will not work with DXi, it only bridges VSTi's. DXi has to be written for 64bit or 32bit programs. that's probably why the above worked for him.

Thanks for the link. That is the exact scenario I'm faced with. I don't have a 32 bit version installed anywhere, so I'm going to install X3 x32 side x side and see how that works. I have X3(e)x64 and Platx64 installed ATM. As far as sound quality goes, my intent is the same as what you described. My intended use for BiaB is for scratchpad/songwriting and such, not for final output. I'm familiar with TTS-1, so it sounds "better" to me. Or at least I'm able to mentally translate coming from a familiar set of sounds. I appreciate you taking the time ...

I just installed X3P 32 bit and I'm happy to report that BiaB automatically sees TTS-1 with no further intervention. I went ahead and installed the whole thing (Less Rapture) to have the other 32 bit goodies available for BiaB in case I get bored one day. Thanks again Beagle

That is great news Bob I'm real happy for you . Yes, putting the X3 32 bit plugs in there is a good idea for having better sounds in BIAB . I like to use the TTS-1 with the Sonitus Multi Band as my default for the Midi playback in BIAB Kenny

I've always like the Sonitus stuff, so I figgered I might as well check the box since my mouse was right there anyway.

I (think) I remember a post on here somewhere that the newer Sonar downloads offer 32 or 64 bit versions of TTS-1 dependent of which version of Sonar was selected. The posting also indicated you can get the 32 bit download to get the 32 bit TTS-1 on your 64 bit operating system. My system is 32 bit so TTS-1 still works with BiaB.

On my 64bit system TTS-1 sounds like carp in 96/24 mode. It's only usable at 44K (and probably 48K haven't tried it) Does that have anything to do with it being 32 bit? If so that could be way to determine the bit-ness of your TTS-1?
I don't really understand what's going on, just something I've noticed. Just throwing this out in case it's helpful.

The TTS-1 help file indicates it is compatible with sample rates up to 96k however I believe the native bit depth is 16 bit.

Out of all of the crashes I've had with PA and Sonar over the years, I have to say that TTS-1 one of the bits that has NEVER been involved in one of them. Are you missing out? Not really. For me it's just a handy, Q&D, OK sounding GM2 tool for getting ideas down. In this particular case (BiaB), I like TTS-1 better than Coyote that comes with BiaB. If I stick with BiaB long enough, I might hunt down a decent GM2 set for ST2.5 (x32) to use in place of TTS-1, but I'm in no hurry.
