Big Band Music

I've been watching a Big Band special on PBS. I haven't listened to big bands in a while and I find it relaxing. Good times

Cool.  It's a genre I always like when it's on, but don't really know much about.

When "In The Mood" comes on, it is very hard not to swing a bit.

Joe Jackson did a Bop album about 25-30 years ago called Jumpin' Jive.  Its such a great album.  Almost every song hits the spot.

Be-Bop is a sub genre of big band, but it is a friggin blast.  Plus a bunch of the bop musicians had a vocabulary all their own.

Another from Juimpin Jive - how many of these words are words?

My old room mate Ken Barry was a sax player in the late 90's version of the Glenn Miller orchestra.

When I put all of my Mom's CD's into my iTunes (so I can load an iPOD for her) it meant that I now have access to almost 200 CD's of Big Band and Easy Listening (and some cool Jazz including Les Paul).  I might just have to shuffle-play some of that Big Band while I'm working today.  (I'd use the Easy Listening as well, but we don't have an elevator here...)

Just ordered this from Amazon - I'm trusting to your scents of good taste in music Maurice

    Cool stuff Craig.

I mentioned in a recent thread how my love of big band swing started when my dad bought this home one day (one of the first LP's we ever owned) to play on the new Dansette ...

    It is some good music.

A drummer buddy of mine back in school, had a father that was into it. He had lots of records and always like to play Gene Kruppa (drummer) music... and some other guy...forget the name now, who was an amazing sax player....

At the time we were like....pftttt!  If it ain't the Stones, or Mott....forgeddaboutit!

    Those were good times.
