Big Console Navigation

Say you've got a console with lots of channels...is there a keyboard shortcut to jump a screens worth of channels instead of dragging with the mouse?

Thanks,

Donny

Yes I've got full screen console, but I'd like to be able to jump between channels instead of click/drag with the mouse.  I usually have my drums on the left and vox way out on the right...maybe starting at track 20 or something out there pretty far.  Any quick way to jump way to the right side without picking up the mouse?

I just took a look at the keyboard shortcuts documentation and didn't see anything like that. But I'm pretty sure you could do it with screensets.

grooveys got the idea....set it up how you like it. then create a screenset, set it up again the other way, create another screenset.
then just use the screenset shortcut.

screensets are one of the best things in sonar in my opinion. it cuts set up times in 1/2 + some.
I import mine from project to project to save time during set up.

Or if you want them always the same, set them up in your normal template. That's what I've done ... only I forget that I have them and end up using the mouse anyway!

Sorry to lead you astray ... I just tried it and it doesn't appear to work. The scroll position doesn't seem to be saved as part of the screenset ... at least not for me.

Yup ... don't know if I'm doing something wrong, of if it just can't be done.

I don't think this is possible without a controller that allows "Banking".

I can use my Mackie Controller to Bank (Move) 8 channels at a time.  This allows me to get to channel 23 by pressing the bank button twice and seeing channel in Sonar and on the Mackie Controller.  seeing channels further down is done by pressing the bank button until I get to the group of 8 channels that contain the track number I want.

Peace,

In keyboard shorcuts, under the Console View category, there are Move To Next Strips Page and Move To Previous Strips Page, which can be bound to keys. That's the good news.

The bad news is that for some reason, while it does move the track focus, it doesn't scroll the view. Maybe it's a bug? I don't know.

I guess this is one for the feature suggestion (or repair) box.

This is one reason I love proTools groups, and (dare I say it) loath Sonars.

In Protools I can make any number of groups of tracks, and then use those groups as/when I want.

For example, I can assign a shortcut to a group and then when I hit that shortcut I will ONLY see that group's tracks. Or I can solo/unsolo any group at a time, etc.

I love everything Cakewalk has been doing, but I do feel it's getting time to look at a better, more expansive grouping method. The one we have is much too simple. Way too simple.

Oh! I just discovered that Screen-sets will save hidden/non-hidden tracks. This is great!

So you can show only a certain group of tracks (say drums), save that as a screen-set, and then save another screen-set with just VOX, etc.

When you move from screen-set to screen-set, you're saved hidden/showing tracks reapear. This is something I'm going to use from now on!

Surely screen sets are per song I guess?  I'll have to try this...seems like it would do the job and assist in organizing.  Thanks for chiming in guys...I appreciate it.

Exactly.

I have a template I use when I start a  new project, which is constantly evolving. Now that I know about this feature in Screen Sets, I'm going to create 10 sets saved inside my template, and they'll always be available to me. And of course I can them modify them if/when needed per project.

So...screensets are doing a very good job for me.  Feel a little silly as it's been here a long time.  However, sometimes it takes Sonar a long time to switch between screensets...like up to 10 seconds.  Anything I can do about that?
