Big bugs in Sonar are nothing new!

The furore in these forums of late has been incredible, and yet the only real difference between now and previous iterations of Sonar is that a lot of the old die hard users are now suffering with the same problems that many others have put up with for years.... Often to get shouted down by those very same die hard supporters, when they got justifiably angry and turned to the forum to vent....
Cakewalk have been ignoring bugs in Sonar and dim pro etc for ages..... Years even, and now its actually affecting more of us than ever before.... maybe. Or maybe the majority of users have few problems and its just the vocal minority that are making so much noise...
Either way it's quite amusing to see the consternation among some of the folks who used to be amongst the most vocal defenders of Cakewalk products.

    I think I agree. Instead of fixing the things that are wrong and wrapping up 8.5 properly, Cake has decided to piss off a lot of users by passing those bugs and more to a new version and taking away functionality. Very Apple of them.

    This is the most noise I've ever heard about a release and it isn't just bugs. There seems to be some real discontent in the ranks. I know I won't be buying anything further than X1 unless we get some things back.

    Offering a different perspective....

    Do you think it's possible that the people at Cake have just never experienced some of these long-standing 3-year-old bugs? Delete hole bus bug, or evelope stuck bug, or clone track in envelope bug-- all examples of bugs that I would figure these dudes could easily squash with minimal effort. I'm no programmer but, it does not sound like rocket science.

    Lack of manpower?  Maybe they should hire benstat?

    @dontletmedown

    These bugs have been officially reported years ago. They are well aware of them, they just choose to ignore them.

    Although I believe you are onto something in that part of the problem is that apparently no-one at CW uses Sonar in any real world environment and hence don't run into these bugs. Cute little video demos of Sonar isn't real-world use.

    Lack of manpower? They just completely overhauled the UI - not a trivial task. If they spent that same amount of resources on fixing existing bugs in Sonar then all of CW's customers would be in a much better position today. It is more a matter of having lost sight of their priorities. It is now more important to bling up Sonar than it is to ship a functioning DAW. A flashy new UI attracts new customers, while fixing old bugs is boring and doesn't bring in anywhere near as many new sales. The rest of us will just blindly upgrade once again since there is no demo version and no list of fixed bugs. After all, CW is just another business with a bottom line. We have to accept that CW isn't concerned with our well-being, they are concerned with their own well-being.

    Why does everyone assume that Cakewalk wrote all this new code? And worked thru Xmas fixing bugs. You should probably be looking at Russia, eastern block, India and Pakistan for your answers. Maybe that is why the word "transporter" is used on the GUI. And why other things are as they are.

    This is a good time to make the jump to Protools 9.
    I've been with Cakewalk since right before Cakewalk 3 and it's hard to finally say enough is enough.
    But this new version smells of Roland. I've stayed away from Roland hardware for over 20 years and now they've Rolandized Sonar.
    Yech!
    I'm moving to a professional solution.
