Big ole blood blister on my FU finger screwin' up my tracking...

Yet again my tracking is being held up by tootsies getting all soft and blisterated after lengthy periods of studying, experimenting, "mixing" and other general naval gazing. I never used to have this problem because even if I wasn't practicing on my own I had various band practices throughout the week which kept the ends of my fingers covered in a layer of thick, dead, leathery flesh.

Thing is I have actually been playing quite a bit lately but not my usual slippy slidy, bendy twisty crap. I did a long session yesterday and now I've got the beginnings of a throbbing blood blister underneath the callous of the middle finger (my FU fingie) on my left hand. Rather annoying because even though it's not super tender it is indeed inhibiting any real delicate fingerboard dancing and I don't want have it erupt into something that will take a couple weeks to heal.

Also woke up with my arms burning last night (tendonitus) and seem to have ripped off a few layers of skin on various friction points elsewhere on both my left and right hands.

Stupid physical shell. Stop being a wuss and OBEY ME!!!!!

That is all.

I wonder if sample loopers ever get blisters...

Probably only on their schlongs as they troll the forum telling us how awesome they are at everything.

Edit: I am not including including actual skilled producers who happen to employ loops in that statement.

Have you tried wristbands for your tendonitis? I have a pair of these which I use for guitar and in the gym. I think they're probably overpriced for what they are and you can no doubt get something of the same quality in the drugstore, but they've worked for me nonetheless.

Hi, sharke. When I practice regularly and warm up properly it's not as bad as it used to be but I need to get back into a regular routine. What's happening now is I'm kind of all over the place (as is probably apparent from my posting patterns). I go through long periods of studying, writing (like werds... not music), mixing/editing or just dealing with meatworld bullcrap. Then, like what has happened these past couple days, I go on a guitar bender where I play aggressively for hours as if I hadn't taken a break. Doesn't hurt as I'm doing it but then I wake up in the middle of the night with my arms on fire.

What I need to do is remember to... well stay practiced up ideally but other than that if I go into spazzo mode make sure I ice and heat my arms before bed even if they don't hurt and do my fancy hand stretches given to me by a physiotherapist many years ago when this first started happening.

Things on my arms really screw me up and make things worse. I can't where watches, wristbands, jewellery or anything because it digs into my tendons. Even shirtsleeves cause problems (even t-shirts). In fact, and this is going to sound weird but it's true, I can hardly wear any clothes for long periods because it causes pain and muscle issues. I pretty much live in my underwear and a loose sleeveless shirt because of it.

So... yup. I'm pretty much sitting here in my gitch as I talk to you guys day in and day out.

Don't worry though. I ain't giving myself any "blisters" as I do. lol

It's all coming out now Beepster! I wonder how many other forum members are posting half naked on the sly...

I think I hurt my tendons through years of playing Bach fugues, and given that I'm self taught I never really learned the classical techniques "properly," i.e. proper stance and warm ups etc. Consequently I got myself into all sorts of twisty positions which I held for hours at a time. Overdoing the weights at the gym didn't help either, I seem to be somewhat spazzed from my wrists all the way up to my neck. I think that whole area is connected and if you get problems in your arms you're likely to get problems in your neck and shoulder, and vice versa. I've found that doing neck stretches helps quite a lot. As does the various exercises I do for my tendons and tennis elbow.

Oh man... yeah, classical guit is not something to go into all willy nilly. Any bad form can lead to some nasty stuff which is why the training is very regimented.

Sounds to me though you could use some attention from an RMT (registered massage therapist). I'm hoping to get some sessions prescribed from my new specialist so it's covered by insurance (or at least partially covered). For my condition it really is the only super effective treatment but it's also one of the things that seems impossible to get covered by our healthcare system... which is silly because it works.

Sorry to hear of your pain Beepster.  I where an armband for Tennis Elbow but I don't play tennis. It is for long periods of computer use.  Here's the type:

I also use a vertical mouse like this:

These two items do help the nerve pain a lot.

Thanks, man. I'm a lot better than I was a few years back (I could barely move back then) but still a long way to go until I may be able to live somewhat normally. This is why I've gone so nuts on learning the DAW stuff. Keeps my mind busy and will hopefully lead to a bit of extra income at some point. I absolutely can't stand just lounging around and not working towards something. I am finally getting some attention from the right doctors so things should get a little better and the "down" time has allowed me to acquire the skills/knowledge I never had the time to back when I was gigging/working non-stop.

That mouse looks cool. I use trackballs and trackpads mostly which help a lot (and I preferred them even before I was all crippled up) but I'm always looking for new ways to do stuff and that looks like it eliminates the major issues I have with regular mice.  Honestly I think standard mice are an awful design and strike me as being one of those things that are only in popular use simply because they've been around for so long (kind of like Pro Tools... sick burn! lol).

In fact that might be a good thing to pick up until I can afford a new trackball. THe scroll-ring on my Expert Mouse (trackball) is totally dead and it makes certain things in Sonar very annoying... particularly trying to navigate in the Inspector. I keep requesting they allow optional scroll bars on every section of the program but since most people have a proper scrollwheel I doubt it will ever happen.

Cheers and I hope you can keep your pain at bay as well. It sucks.
