Binding pitchwheel... crackles

Whenever I try to bind the pitch/mod wheel to anything else than the defaults I get crackling.

I have a suspicion that it's because the resolution on them is so high, I can see when I move them the CPU goes though the roof even just binding them to volume in Sonar with a single track. I can load a massive amount of stuff on this box with no problems, but pitch/mod wheel bound to anything and it's crackle city.

Any way to trim that down so I could use my pitch/mod wheels on my other keyboards for something else?
