Birthdays Are Getting Old

What a mixed bag of emotions birthdays are for me these days.  I just don't really look forward to them much any more.  I turned 52 yesterday.  No one at the office really knew.  My wife called mid morning and asked if I wanted to do something special for dinner.  Well, I knew her and my daughter had massive colds and that we had an ice storm rolling in, so I said why don't we wait and do something on the weekend.  They closed work this morning due to the ice, but if it by chance thaws this afternoon, maybe I will go buy myself I pair of new boots.

I guess, I appreciate having family around more these days, compared to gifts or celebrations.  I must be getting old.

Happy Birthday Makeshift! We have a few things in common...My birthday is on the 15th. I'll be 45! I'm also stuck in the middle of a ice storm about 20 miles south of Fort Smith, AR. So far we still have electricity, but there are power outages all over.

Thanks Clint.  Still have power hear as well.  I better save the firewood just in case.  The west side of Dallas is getting it far worse.

Happy Birthday Mike. I am only a little younger than you ( by a year) we're old farts, maybe you already knew that.

Remember when we thought 30 was an old geezer? I remember getting a phone call from a band prospect who was in his 30's and we were 26. I was like dude we were kind of looking for someone pre geriatric. I didn't exactly say it that way but the jist was he didn't pass our age requirements.

Hope you have a great day. Maybe since you still have electricity and all you could take a rain check on a future birthday present,  do some internet shopping kind of like Christmas and birthday all rolled into one. Theres a lot of things a guy could buy online at Sweetwater, Musiciansfriend and American Musical Supply .

I would be wary though of having my Gibson delivered by drone.

    Happy Belated 52nd Mike!!!

I'm not much into my own B'day per'se, but do get a ton of enjoyment in seeing the excitement from my children (7, 5, & 3 yr olds) whom are looking forward to celebrating the birthday. That's just priceless and I always go with their flow. Just spending quality time with the family is precious.

    Cheers Mike!!

    Birthdays suck!

    That said, happy birthday.

I honestly don't think I've celebrated mine since I was 21. That's 19 years of ignoring them. I always disliked them, even when I was a kid. I guess I just didn't feel comfortable about the day being "about me," it just felt weird. Other people go nuts and expect the whole world to rally round and join in this triumphant celebration of their existence. Horses for courses I guess. So when birthdays roll around I just make sure nobody knows except those whose knowledge I just can't help. Is there a birthday equivalent of "bah humbug"?

Happy Birthday, man.  Yeah, birthdays in your 50's don't have the same excitement.  You go from celebrating the fact that none of your parent's schemes worked and you managed to survive another year to wondering if you have enough cheese.  It's a little different when the high point of your day is having a family member ask, "Are you still here?"

Cheer up, though.  In a few years, certain individuals will be looking at your life insurance policy and wondering exactly what constitutes an "accident."

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. We managed to get out of the house for a little while today. It was quite the effort together the ice off the car, it was easily a 1/4" thick. One of the trees in our backyard lost several limbs from the ice. As I drove around town, looked like lots of threes suffered from the weight of the ice. The roads had turned to water and slush, at least until tonight.
