There's more to come...I've got lots more pictures to sort through. Been sitting here in the dark all day while the PUD replaces my power pole outside. I'll try to add some more stuff before I leave town. With the power out, all I could do to while away the time was fiddle with Studio One Artist on my laptop, running on battery. I wanted to make sure it was all functional before heading for the island. My impression so far: it's a well thought-out UI, but the Artist edition seems pretty useless without having access to any soft synths other than what comes bundled. Unless you're into generic plain-vanilla electronica, the included synths are just OK.

thanks... Not much info on the GR-55, but it's supposed to be a huge improvement, both in sounds and tracking. As a Roland gtr synth player, I'm chompin' from what I've seen in the YouTubes. And I agree, someone expressive with the thing, rather than blazing licks. Steve Stephens hit a couple nice string patches on the Roland site, however.

I'm stuck in my basement studio working and raising kids, i never get out. A fate worse that death; not! :-) I've been telecommuting for 11 years now and wouldn't trade it for anything! How many dads can say they get to see their kids off to elementary school in the morning and then much a 15 minute hole the their work day to meet them at the bus after school? At age 8 My boy/girl twins love to jam with me in the studio. Kids and music can be a great combination! My little boy encourages me to "go off" and to stray out of my musical comfort zone which helps me grow as a musician.

Hey, Bit, Just wanted to stop in to say thanks for posting this stuff! After your first NAMM report last year, I was actually looking forward to your perspective from this year's event. It's also great that you and some of the folks from the forum actually got to meet up this year, and it's nice that Brandon and Seth were also able to join the party! Enjoy your upcoming vacation and have a safe trip, buddy! Bob

But there's something about the old school style that just feels right. I don't get a huge amount of gearlust these days but there's something about that desk that sets me off again every time. Thanks for the posts and pic Mr Flipper. Child

bitflipper ...And thanks to Gary Garritan for being a good sport and posing like his logo: FANTASTIC report, Bit! - You've single-handedly shown me why I need to hang out here at the regular Sonar Forum more--(as long as this Forum lasts anyway!)-- I've been languishing in frustration at the X1 Forum. Great shot of Gary - hehe, thanks for it. AND - Something very cool for me - I did the demos for the new Garritan World Library, and those were played at the Garritan booth. So I'm proud to say I was performing at NAMM this year! I've never seen so many NAMM photos before. It's great to see all of these, and your text makes for very entertaining reading. THANKS, Bit! Thanks for all the posts. Spent two weeks in Kuaui this summer, and really got into the uke. Some locals there can really rip, very cool. Who knew one could drop 3 grand on one?

Very enjoyable! Thanks BF! I'm chomping at the bit too for the GR55. After a GR300, GR700 and a GI-10, I was just wondering this fall where Roland was heading with this long lineage after they discontinued the GI-20. Mark

Jeez, now you've revived last year's thread and readers will wonder why the information is a year out of date! Yes, I am seriously bummed about not attending this year. It's been an annual pilgrimage and the highlight of my year, but this year the money's just too tight. But you kids go out and have a good time and don't - sob - worry about me.

Thank you, bitflipper, for the great photos and insightful commentary. I really appreciate your efforts. It's clear that you are an excellent journalist, even when you don't pretend to be. I wonder if you could expand on the Roland plan to end the Sonar forums? I've only seen the two references in this thread and find the prospect of not having our forum available alarming. If true, it would be a great loss to all of us. Hopefully, if the Roland sponsored forums go away, then an alternative can replace them (e.g., Yahoo forums?). Anyway, thanks again. You did a great job!

I wonder if you could expand on the Roland plan to end the Sonar forums? That was a joke made by Brandon over beers at our first NAMM meetup last year. We thought it was so funny that when he went to the men's room Bapu told the server to add our nachos to Brandon's Visa card.
