Stairway.... 2007/11/26 07:42:14 (permalink)
I remember me brudda 25+ years ago...we're all drunk as all get-up and he stands up without any music playing and sings (wayyy off key of course) "and shes buying a bla Bla Bla Bla"..... he looked like George Washington making a declration with hand raised and finger pointing to the sky....the whole bar just looked at him thinkin WTF was that...but I knew looking in his eyes it was a sound decision...lol....

every once in awhile I'll ask him....hey mike you gonna sing for us tonight?

Good sound. Yea I might call it country rock, it's hard to distinquish anymore. Sounds a lot like the Byrds, which makes it AOK in my book. Great guitar licks. Piano sounds cool. Very well constructed. I dig it for sure. Well mixed.

OK Daryl! I'll take any comparison to the Byrds as a great compliment. One of my favorite bands of that era. I remember playing Mr Tambourine Man (45 RPM single) until I'd worn out the grooves, then went out and bought a replacement copy.

I played a blonde Rickenbacker 12-string for many, many years, inspired in part by McGuinn. (I wish I hadn't let that guitar go. I sold it to a friend for $400. He immediately turned around a re-sold it for $1,200.)

As to what qualifies as country rock, I haven't a clue. Maybe someone can provide a definitive answer. Eagles? Keith Urban? ZZ Top?

Or is it any rock song with a melody and intelligible lyrics? Are cowboy hats, pickup trucks and right-wing politics optional or an intrinsic part of the package?

Plant's like what, 62 now? Probably not opening his shirt much these days. Nor do I.

I saw RP perform on TV some time ago and it was pretty pathetic. You could tell who it was singing, but the poor guy's lost that golden voice. Still, he has all those great recordings to prove he really was once the golden god.

No, I have not heard about the reunion show. I assume it'll be released on DVD, after the usual run as a fundraiser for public television. Just watched the Cream reunion again last night (fundraiser on PBS of course). It was great seeing those guys so relaxed onstage just casually pumping out quality vintage blues-rock like they've been doing it for 40 years.

This morning the song's at #3 on the Soundclick country-rock chart, thanks mostly to you guys bumping up its hit count. That's kind of cool, I think. Many thanks to all who listened and offered suggestions.

Just got my link to work long enough to listen to this - pretty darn good.
How did you do the fiddle parts?
