Just FYI, Strummy is also after that coveted prize. The key might be to just request this in every Fred.....sooner or later, someone will eventually give in.

You can rest assure that Strummy avoids the FSF like the plague.....so you also have that going for you.

The whole bloody thing is weird from top to bottom. I didn't really understand what was being said at first (incrementing?) but I guess it's just someone(s) refreshing a thread obsessively for whatever reason. I have no idea WHY someone would do that or why it would tick anyone off but I have seen people complain about high view counts without a (seemingly) proportionate amount of comments.

I DO know that the Hosts seem to be obliged to respond to any and all reports/complaints they receive so maybe bit was just getting fed up with it and posted that... and it obviously was not going well so it got yanked.

The internet is a very strange place filled with even stranger people who do even STRANGER things for dawg knows what reasons.

Good thing I'm perfectly normal and sane.

Maybe Dave just needed to post it to appease said "upset member". When he didn't get the accused to step forward and say "I did it and I'm sorry, but I was young and stupid" or "I never incremented thread view count without permission of the thread owner", he was compelled to delete it.

why it would tick anyone off

My current theories  (aside from self-importance or hypersensitivity):

1. It wasn't the thing itself that upset them, but rather they felt they were being trolled. I get that, but I don't see how a thread here makes sense for that if Dave really knew who the culprit was.

2. Since I discovered you can sort the forums by view count, perhaps an infrequent visitor upstairs was using that feature to avoid going through pages and pages of uninteresting threads every week and suddenly found it wasn't working. But that seems to imply that Dave knows that the culprit upstairs is a regular in the CH here. Hmmm.

3. Perhaps the bakers (sans Anderton) monitor upstairs via view count. And they might not want the squeaky-wheel types to know that particular piece of information, so they tried this approach (obviously not understanding the CH).

In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

I'm so proud of the FSF I've viewed it at least 22,023 times per day every day for 5.5 years.

That's the only way it could have reached 44M+ views.

Heck, if we add ignorance and stupidity we've got most of the interwebs.

Not endorsing it, but if one sorted a forum by views it's a way of bumping one's own thread.
