Bizarre Plugin behaviour - can anyone else reproduce this?
I recently encountered a very unexpeceted distortion (sounding a bit like the evil criminal mastermind demanding a ransom over the phone) - appearing when I disabled my reverb plugin in the track bin. It sits between the EQ and Boost 11 plugins (all 64 bit) and only happens when it is between them, and when it is turned OFF! Quite bizarre! I've made a very short video (25 seconds) so you can see and hear it ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haSFZ_K_NEw Can anyone else reproduce this, or is it just me?

What happens when you remove Boost 11? That's where I'd be looking. I've had nothing but issues with that plug giving me weird distortion even when used very lightly.

I just watched your video and created a new project as close to yours as I could tell from watching the video. 44.1/32, 64-bit Double Precision On, and the same effects on a track. The first thing I noticed was, the LP64-EQ creates a massive delay. Wow! I only had it, Sonitus Reverb, and Boost 11 on the track and I got at least a 1/2 second delay when playing guitar with input echo on, but I didn't get the distorted sound you are getting. I would try increasing my sound card buffers unless you need to use input echo, in which case I would turn off the LP64-EQ until you are done recording. Considering how much delay the LP64-EQ introduces, I'm guessing that's the problem. Maybe try turning off 64-Bit Double Precision Engine and see if that helps. I tried it and it did not help at all with the delay I was getting. We have very similar systems. Here are my specs ... Intel Quad Core i5-750 2.66 Gigabyte Mobo 4GB RAM 2-HDD's Windows 7 x64 Sonar 8.5.3 x64/x86 and Sonar X1b Build 255 x64/x86 M-Audio Fast Track Ultra (Buffer size 128 samples.) Good luck! Bub

Ah I should have watched your vid...I didn't even notice it there. That's not a distortion, that's a different animal. Man, I had that exact problem and can't remember what I did to make it stop. Seth answered a post of mine and told me what to do. I got that all the time and had to reload the plug and it would stop. Save the project and all was fine, reopen and it would do that slow down thing again. Darn, I can't think of what I did to fix it! I'll try to dig back and find the thread.

Hi Danny, removing Boost 11 certainly removes the problem, but so does replacing the EQ with any other plugin I have (except for the multibandx64 which produces chipmunk sounds!!) - it seems like it is just this particular combo. What I can't understand is why it would happen when one is turned off !

Hi Bub, I tried what you suggested and increased the sound card to maximum buffers with no difference. What is so bizarre is that it works fine when they are all on!

Pastacrow: I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight until I remember what the heck I did to fix this! It's driving me crazy! I soo know I fixed this problem. Let me try and see what I can come up with. It's an easy fix...if I can just remember what it was....grrr...I so hate when I forget important stuff like this! I'm sure someone will jump in here and tell you what it was soon if I can't remember. Yeah when you said "distortion" that's what threw me off. That's like a sample clock changing in the middle of your song...it gives you demon voice. LOL! But there is a fix for that...let me go experiment and I'll get back to you if I can remember what the heck I did. :) Sorry.

Danny - if you are able to find the fix I would certainly appreciate it.

Pastacrow, do me a favor....you see how you have stereo interleave enabled for that track, yet it is a mono track? Set the interleave to mono and tell me if it stops. :)

Danny - you are a legend! I messed around with various settings and having both the track and the master as stereo stops it happening (even though the track is mono). Any other combination doesn't work (eg both mono). Thanks for taking the time to investigate it! BTW - I checked out you website - and your song writing and playing are very impressive!! Great sound as well!

Hahahaha I knew that would do it for ya Pasta, and you're quite welcome! I soo knew I had that problem before and it was an easy fix! I'm serious man, if I wouldn't have sorted that out, it would have bothered me all night! LMAO!!! Glad we got ya fixed up. Yeah, rule of thumb for me is if I'm using a stereo track, I use stereo interleave. If it's mono, I leave it at mono interleave. Older versions of Sonar, you had to have stereo interleave turned on for a mono track to send your effects in your bin, in stereo. Now with X1, (I believe 8.5 as well, but I could be wrong) the effects inserted in the bin even on a mono track, will be sent in stereo. :) Aww thanks so much for the kind words, I really appreciate that. Glad ya liked the songs and the sounds. I'm about 3 years out of date with material that I need to update. Working on a new album now actually, so hopefully I can share some of that soon. Thanks so much again and I can sleep now knowing we figured this out! Hahahaha! :) -Danny
