Using a phone while driving has been illegal here for some time but enforcement is weak.

There's no way I'd let my blackberry drive. Just as well by the looks of it.

I always drive myself. I let Jack Daniels drive once and was lucky to get home... I don't text and drive. The closest I get is hitting the accuweather bookmark. If I have to dial a number I will almost always pull over, unless there is just no traffic. I saw an accident this week in a parking lot. The girl parked next to me had to back up a little to see past my truck. She stopped and a van hit the back of her car. She and another lady wh saw it said that both the people in the van seemed to be texting.

As long as we are talking about stupid and disrespectful people I will say that I also have a problem with people who wera PJs to town... I think is shows a general direspect for everyone including the person wearing the PJs. I take offense... I may be a little old fashioned but you know what they say, "old age and deceit will beat youth and enthusiasm every time".. so bring it.

I'm fully capable of doing several things at once.  When I was young and had a broken left arm, I could eat, drive (a manual transmission) and change the radio all at the same time without any driving difficulties.

Yes, I can do this.  But I don't.

Then there are those people that we ALL know, that have enough trouble doing ONE thing well, yet they're trying to text with their phones, drive and drink coffee...  I actually saw a guy two weeks ago shaving - with a blade!  Dumb.

I've got a Droid X2 that sits in one of those gooseneck holders that attaches to the front window.  It's right in front of me so I can see who's calling (I've got a bluetooth headset) plus I use it for GPS navigation.  I found an app for driving that gives me good feedback (e.g., direction, speed, outside temperature) plus six large buttons which are easy to hit (instead of the usual 20 small ones).  What they need is an app that can warn you when the drivers around you aren't paying attention to their driving!  LOL!

What is it with all this communcation technology available nowadays that some people still feel the need to actually physically drive somewhere.

Put the car down when you are cruising the super-highway.

    Simples.

I've prolly told this around here before, so my apologies in advance.  My brother heard one of his students say that she had an accident on the way to school.  She was so upset because she had been texting her mom and all of a sudden had to quit, and her mom was worried.  AND, she spilled her enchilada that she'd had in her hand all over her clothes!

    The nerve!

I've found that it helps me to attempt to understand the other individual.  If I can put myself in their place, empathize with them, identify with their struggles, suffer through their challenges, and feel their presures, then I can begin to comprehend their motivations and the reasons for the choices they make.

This morning, I used this technique to better understand the actions of those wonderful folks travelling down the tollway with me.  Here's a sample of what I heard when I attempted to get into their heads.

"Push foot down.  Make car go.  Try other foot."

"Like, I'm like totally, you know, like whatever, then I like totally thought, 'What?'  That's when I like spazzed out and I was like, 'Why is that old guy honking at me?'  Like, really!"

"Flashy Light!  Flashy Light!  Me stop and look at Flashy Light!"

    "Ooooh!  Trucky!  Him gots trucky!"

"I'm so very bored.  This commute will take all morning.  The only possible way I can stay awake is to post another hundred times on the Coffee House forum..."

"Me see Car on Side of Road.  Me Stop and Stare for Long Time for No Reason."

    "Horn Works!!!  Horn Works!!!"

    "Uuuuuhhhhhhhhh..."

I've learned a lot about my fellow commuters.
