Hey, Rob, Cool song with great songwriting, and excellent playing and vocals, as always from you! The mix is clean, rich and full sounding, although I think you're right about maybe punching up the volume on the percussion a little bit to help it cut through the thick layer of acoustic guitars. Excellent stuff as always, brother, have a good one! Bob

I listened to the first and second mixes and concluded there is little I could say that would make any difference other than I prefer the second version.

bob- appreciate the comments, I did a fresh remix on it, it does sound better. i wont post the update until i'm thru messin' with it......
brightened the congas, changed the level and pan, it sits better now. also, i found a few spots, on the maracas, congas and tamb, that were too much in the back beat.. i was really going for a lazy, laid back groove, but got behind the beat in some key places.. i split the audio up a bit in a few places, and slipped a few wav files to better line up with the downbeats of the guitar rhythms, and boom, there they were. i didn 't use a click on this, just natural feel, but since i had to go back and put the percussion on AFTER the fact, the groove was not as dialed in, as it would have been doing it the other way around. that's cool, i still have a real performance that i like, and a few micro corrections is totally worth keeping the rest of it. i mean, i'm still learning how to mix using ALL the tools, including simple edits (that the tape guys used to do with a razor and tape!)

wookie thanks for liking the 2nd version more.. you do realize.. that the 2nd version is the 1st version, except that it's a mp3, and the first link is a streaming wav......?! hehe i wonder, how does 'box' stream a 'wav' file? either way, i set it up so that anybody can download the actual wav, just in case they wanna get 'clinical' on me..........! LOL

I really enjoyed this. The vocals, the instrumentation, the production and the very cool guitar runs. One super picky thought - a shaker might work really well in this tune .... replacing the tambourine....( I know.... picky ****) :)

tagruvto thanks, glad you dig it.... shaker---well, with tamb, congas AND maracas already, shaker might just chase all the snakes out of the house! LOL i've wanted a good shaker for a long time, just haven't come across a deal at the right time yet.... but yea, a shaker would totally work

Interesting as both the files I have, which I downloaded, say they are .wav files?

I listened to the Soundcloud version. Lot of work in that song and vocals. I think it gave me a headache though (just joking). +1

wookie that's funny (and interesting), i figured the soundcloud upload always converted the file to whatever the streaming is.. but i ALWAYS upload a 44.1khz/16 bit wav file 'thinking' it might sound better on the conversion if i let them do the conversion their own way... i typically burn my own mp3's at 320 kbps, and i do it thru WAVELAB, so i get the highest quality i can manage... the 'box' file is a wav upload as well. they were both the same exact file uploaded. so if there is soundcloud monkey business going on 'AFTER' the fact, i am unaware of it.

Hum I download both the files I have from BOX The first one is 46,028 KB and the second is 46.041 KB and looking at them in Soundforge they have very different wave profiles. The second one has a much louder/compressed look than the first.

that's very interesting, wookie.. that must be something that soundcloud does to the file after the fact. i think that the 'box' file is the purest file.... i was only aware of upload (1) moonshine file to box... maybe when you got to it, an older one was still in there.. i do master these files after i'm finished mixing, and the way i work is strictly 'on the fly', so it's very possible that there would be differences in level, i'm always playing with mastering schemes..... either way, i've deleted both of the files now, since they are obsolete after my new mix session this past weekend... i think the only thing i have left to do on this mix, is to now decide, whether i want the guitars and vox bone dry and pure, or more studio slick with reverb......
