Well there's kinda several different pro sounds out there, once you figure out what you want and their differences it will be easier to achieve. Right now though maybe you can add a touch of reverb to the overall mix for some ambience, and bring the drums up a little bit, but these are pretty much just my opinions. Basically just keep recording because experience is one way to get a great sound if you already have a mental grasp on it. Judging from this song it seems you definitely have that. It was a pretty clean sounding mix. Hopefully some of the vets around here who know what they are doing will give you better pointers than me! It all starts with good clean individual tracks and a good mix of them all. Learning about compressors and limiters will help a lot too.But mainly ... just keep recording!

Great guitar playing. Very, very good. I agree with zeypxun about compressors and limiters. I'd suggest even just running your master through boost 11, I think that alone would help a ton. You've got a real talent on that guitar, I'm glad your are going to be learning to mix and master some of your work. I hope to hear more and welcome to the forum.

Hi there, first of all let me take the time and thank you for your comments, the were very helpfull to me : I was in complete darkness when it cames to mixing and mastering and now I see a light at the end of the tunnel.... hehhe.

I followed your opinions and went back and made some changes to the song Blevee ( addes some reverb on the master track, a little compression on the guitars and drums).

here is the link for the new mix: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=773257

    And please comment...

    Thanks !!!

Hi there Pedro! First of all - a warm welcome to this forum!
I too was blown away by your guitar playing skills, man! What a great sound, up front, deep and utterly coooool. The occasional wah-pedal sounds had a nice 70s touch.
I also like the drums. Did you play them yourself? Or are these loops? Bass solo is great, I would boost the bass a little bit in the mix. Otherwise, I couldn't really pick on anything - I think you've got a great mix here!
This was a real treat to listen to, Pedro! Keep up the good work.
    Heinz.

Thank´s airmeki for your warm comment !

The drums we´re played with SD2, I used to compose drums on my old songs using a drum machine, but once i got into the midi/loops world i REALLY safe lot´s of time... hehhehe
I´ll follow your advice on the bass track and see how it works!!

    Thanks once again!!!!

Fantastic stuff! That's a great tone, very Billy Gibbons-ish, really in-yer-face....excellent playing skills too.

That was an ususual transition from the rocking section to the more mellow piece and back to the wah, but it worked!

    More of that please

Cool, funky playing and nice tone too. This all sounds really good apart from the bass just not coming through...important in a three piece kind of set up. I'm listening on small speakers and i can just make out the bass here and there but most of the time i can't hear it at all. Fix that and this'll be great.

Sounds really good to me on my head phones. Great groove on the song. Nice work on the arrangement. I do like the tone of the guitar and the playing. That's the gravy on the turkey man.

I agree with opaque. Good stuff but needs some some bass, and more cowbell! Actually, this tune WOULD sound good with some cowbell since it has a nice driving funky rock sound.

An impressive first project! Great guitar playing.

Mix suggestion: when the engineer is also the guitarist, songs naturally become guitar showpieces. While you're certainly talented enough to warrant that, if you want a real song you have to pretend that the other phantom "musicians" deserve equal billing. Bring up the bass and drums, for starters. Then listen to the song as if you were the drummer, not the guitarist. Are there enough dynamics and variation in the drums? Now pretend you're the bassist and listen to the song as if that had been your sole contribution. Is it punchy enough? Does it interact with the other instruments or just do its own thing?

Also, a little ambiance would help the drums sound more "live". Try a subtle short delay on the snare.

The guitar sounds really good. Maybe you could tell us what you used, e.g. your axe, amp, mic and mic placement, effects, DI box, etc. Some of us are tech-heads at heart, and it's always nice to know how a pleasing sound was made.

All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to.

Hi again, thanks bitflipper your point of view makes LOT´S of sense, i have to say that you really made me think about music in general and not has a guitar player and I´ll try not to forget that....most of the times I find myself working too many hours on the guitar when composing that i forget all the other instruments ( witch are critical for a good song ).

This song was played with a Ibanez SZ520 QM, the amp is a Peavey Ultra 120 tube head running trough a Boss GT-6 ( with just the speaker simulation on ) and connected to a Edirol UA-25 interface.
for the drums i used SD2 and the bass track was played with Dimension Pro on a cheap keyboard i have.

Once again thanks for your help!!!!

    Hi Pedro
Really liked what I could hear - unfortunately really having internet streaming problems today - one of the down sides of living on a slightly remote Island - if the Island's link plays up (which is a crappy satellite link at the best of times) my connection plays up!
Anyway, the only comments I would make, which some other people have mentioned, is I would sought the Bass out. You're such a proficient guitar player, why not get a proper Bass (does not have to be an expensive one) and really make this track fly.
Great first attempt, keep it up.
    Cheers
    Nigel

    Hi Pedro.

Great guitar stuff. Wow! I loved it.

Bitflippers suggestions were right on (as always). Especially about a delay on the snare. I also had the impression that everything was mixed to the center. Maybe try and spread it out a little bit with panning. Although I know that can be tough to do with only three instruments, but stereo delays can help there too. But it could also be because I'm listening on headphones. When I get to my studio I'll listen again through the monitors.

    Great stuff! Keep it coming.
